Kind of weird reading Canucks players talking about the rebuild… I don’t remember the Canucks rebuilding whatsoever. Seems like they did a lot of patching. Not the same situation as us.
People confuse "rebuilding" with being bad. Just because a team is bad does not mean it is rebuilding. Fitz has literally said in the past Lindy was brought in to develop young players. Contrast that to Vancouver that is trading for players like OEL, etc.

the big criticism of the Benning/Linden regime was that they wouldn’t commit to a rebuild. The quote that floats around a lot is Benning saying “this is a team we can turn around in a hurry” at his first press conference. And they insisted on always saying “retool” instead of rebuild. It’s left the Canucks in a truly terrible place and it’s remarkable that Jim Benning still has defenders among the fanbase.

I've had a love/hate relationship with Stan over the years, though it's much more love now and no hate at all. I perceived him to be a Rangers homer at times.

I still love during the post game of the 2001 SCF loss where he said he would have rather signed Kenny Sutton than Sean O'Donnell. For some reason, this made me laugh a little too hard. I was also thinking the exact same thing at the time.

Or the Devils can get a great deal by sending them Jack and Luke.
I don’t think they have enough in their entire franchise to make the trade for me. I’m thinking you are joking but to play along - Quinn Peterson Demko and … the kid they just drafted plus … Podkolzin plus … ya no . They don’t have enough

The Canucks have just been an absolutely rudderless (I'm not the only one to use that word) franchise ever since their contending window closed, which really wasn't too long after they went to the finals in 2011.

It's long been said that ownership will not them rebuild, so that might explain why you see all these weird, stupid, senseless moves like all the signings Benning made.

Now they have to come in and clean up that mess, but one of the first patented moves the new regime makes is re-signs a guy that they talked about as being traded out of town ALMOST EVERY SINGLE FRICKIN DAYS FOR THE LAST 8 OR 9 MONTHS BEFORE SIGNING HIM!

Like I said, it's just rudderless. There's really no plan. And Rutherford gets on there and basically sounds like he don't have a plan either. They may or may not be in a rebuild.

They're really been purposeless since the end of the Luongo era.

I don’t know if it’s his fault. He only just walked in the door.

The Benning regime did a number on them.

But the Benning regime was heavily rumored to be listening to ownership telling them not to rebuild, keep competing. Keep signing UFA’s to bad contracts. I’m pretty sure that’s why Benning became a thing. When they stopped winning playoff rounds and then in the last year didn’t even make the playoffs, they did away with Mike Gillis (who I’m pretty sure has been out of hockey ever since) and brought in Benning. And then he was hiring bad coaches like Willie Desjardins and Travis Green and signing every UFA that actually wanted to sign there. Started acquiring a bunch of late 20’s guys like JT Miller and OEL. OEL was 30 when he got there. Miller was only 26 and probably one of the pickups that actually made sense at the time, so I shouldn’t even talk him up as bad for them. Not then, but now he’s not a guy they need to keep around.

Never understood why the Canucks traded for OEL. Having him on the team along with Hughes is redundant and they could have gotten two good stay at home Defenceman which IMO they need with OEL's contract.

Instead the Canucks GM went "All your offensive defensman belong to us"

I love seeing the futility of Vancouver.

Lovely city, but home to the most overrated players of all time, from Bure and Linden to Naslund and Sundin to the Sedins, Luongo and Kesler. - total B-tier franchise that never took its medicine and a media and fanbase that propped up the reputation of players relative to a much more impressive east coast set of talent.

I don't think Bure or the Sedin's were overated but the others? definitely.

Statistically, agreed. But I never felt they could be the best players in a series matched up against a similar tier of player, whether it was Forsberg, Fedorov or Kane, Kopitar, etc.

Similar for Carey Price - another guy who's going to make the Hall and it will be a total joke. I too would love to get overwhelming credit for my three good years of work.

Eh, Price never really had a good team in front of him. I lay the majority of their 8 playoff appearances since 2011 on his shoulders. He basically did a Schneider on them when they missed the playoffs by making them to good to be in the draft lottery.

I would put Price above Lundqvist in the good goalies with no cup standings.

If the goal was to develop young players a coach like Andy Murray, Mike Johnston, Mike Eaves or Buffalo's Don Granato would have been a much better fit.

Watching prime Bure play was electric. You felt the ice tilt every time the puck hit his stick. Hell forever be one of my favourite non-Devils.

The rest? Meh.
