Barzal with two more assists against Ottawa. His 18 is one behind the leaders (Drai and MacK), but he still hasn't scored a goal!

Very surprising news guys, after Buffalo's hot start they've lost 6 in a row

Can't believe it!
The division came back down to earth pretty quickly didn't it lol. Ottawa never really got off the ground (they shouldn't be this bad though IMO), Buffalo is back to being shit, Red Wings were riding unsustainable goaltending and shooting, and the Habs have played above expectations but have had a pretty soft schedule for the most part. Soon enough the Leafs, Lightning and Panthers will join the Bruins and run away with the division

How the hell did the Stars get Robertson under contract for only $7.75M AAV???

Massive bargain.

Yeah after watching Pasta, I was thinking how do we compete with a team that has 2 players (Pasta and Marchand) who put up better numbers than our $11+m players but are earning less than Nylander ?

Robertson, Ranta, Drai, Kutch, Thompson, Bratt, Horvat, Hinz, Suzuki !!, Koneckny!! Terry, Pavelski, Pettersson !!! all outperforming their contracts.

There are plenty of reasons why other players are making much less than 16, 34 and 91 but why does the mecca of hockey have to overpay it's stars ?? This is why I don't think we can afford to give Matty another blank cheque.

Wearing that, they deserved to lose.

Expos colours. Nice thought, not nice look for classy Habs jersey.

I... I liked them

Would be curious to see either a different pants or sock colour though
As a traditionalist I thought it was terrible.
The Leafs aren't going to be wearing some whacky version this year, are they?

Honestly, I don't think we could ask for a much better start:

Habs, Sabres and Wings all banking a ton of points, hopefully taking them further from the top of the draft.

Senators losing a ton of games they deserve to win, but will likely see their luck even out, resulting in a 10th place in the conference finish.

Only painful bit is that Boston look like legit Cup contenders. Maybe they will get overhyped and crash in the playoffs? *crosses fingers*

Are the Eastern playoff teams already set? The 8 teams will jockey for positions for the next 3 month similar to last season.

Boston has destroyed the league but it's still early. I'm not totally sold on them being the best team, they have a well rounded squad but I think they will slow down in the later part of the season. Bergeron, Marchand and Krejci are also old now so I don't know if they'll have the same juice later into the year, even though historically they've been studs for the team. Also, all of Bergeron, Marchand, Pasta and Krejci have missed big chunks of games with various injuries the last few years, and Taylor Hall too has had a fairly injury riddled career over the years (though he played a full season last year). I fully expect them to be a top 3 Atlantic team but not sure about the best team in the league.

I'm really interested to see how they do over these next 4-6 weeks...during that time they play Colorado x2, Vegas x2, Tampa x2, Florida x2, Devils x2, and also the Islanders and Kings. They're going to get tested really good.

The only team I could see making noise and moving up is Pittsburgh. I have a feeling if they keep struggling they will fire Sullivan and bring in someone fresh and go on a run.

Pittsburgh probably knocks out the Islanders by the end of the season.

I don't know, it seems that way but assuming you're basing this on the underlying numbers, the Islanders outperformed their mediocre analytics for multiple seasons under Trotz. It's just the way they play :dunno: They're also very strong in net with Sorokin and Varlamov as one of league's best tandems (if not best) which will carry them a long way.

If they get in the playoffs, I wouldn’t be surprised if NYI went to the SCF, tbh.

Wash and Pitt are the two on the outside that could make a run, but they just might not have it this year. Sid played uninspired last night, that’s for sure, and cost them at least 1 point.

The Islanders have a history of slightly outperforming their underlying metrics, almost entirely because of their goaltending, but not nearly to this extent. Over their Trotz era, they outperformed their underlying metrics by just over 2 percentage points. This season, they are outperforming by over 9 percentage points. The Islanders have a good goaltending tandem, but the best goaltending a team got last season was +27 GSAx. The Islander's goalies are currently on pace for +56 GSAx. They missed the playoffs pretty convincingly last year and didn't really make any improvements.
