Leafs fans obsessions with their ex-players, prospects, coaches, GM's... is hilarious. The ghosts of Leafs past haunt some of you pretty bad.
There's definitely some luck involved, but Sakic has built a pretty good track record now with capitalizing on underutilized players with high potential.Added them. The Georgiev move is part genius, part lucky. Georgiev was just as much a gamble as any goalie, as while he showed some promise, he didn't look that great behind Shesterkin either. Goalies are such voodoo.
Well then... damn
Also out a long time jeez. So early in the season.
Cross your fingers Leafs stay healthy now.
Keep it going!Coyotes 6-6-1. How?

-Burakovsky was disappointing in Washington and seemed like he hit a ceiling as a 30-35 pt guy, and turned into a 60-70 pt guy with Colorado
-Nichushkin looked like he was headed for bust/disappointment territory, and is now a PPG physical winger for the Avs
-Kadri didn't have a great final year in Toronto and was being forced out by Dubas, and Sakic capitalized big time on that, as he turned into a PPG monster and was a huge part of their Cup run (and he didn't trade him after the suspension vs the Blues)
-He shored up the Avs goaltending by letting Varlamov go and making a move for Grubauer who was a solid #1 for them for a few years, and then managed to replace him with a risky but successful gamble by paying a first for Kuemper who was on an expiring deal
-The suave Devon Toews acquisition, he saw great potential in him and paid the picks and gave him the money that old man Lou wouldn't and now he's a top pairing stud D
He's also known when to cut bait and make adjustments when necessary. He didn't pay the money for Grubauer who is now struggling in Seattle, let Kuemper walk as well and replaced him with Georgiev as mentioned, let Kadri walk and repurposed the money to keep Nuke and MacK long-term, traded Duchene for a franchise-altering trade which got him Girard and Byram, etc.
All of his moves have required some luck but he's clearly a very good evaluator of talent and potential and capitalizing on underrated players.
I feel like letting Campbell go was take it or leave, happy to let him walk but status quo would have been an acceptable solution, but the real heat was the Murray trade since it was an even longer Hail Mary than Campbell was originally.
Like I said in summer Campbell was huge risk with that contract. It could have killed our cap and it seems like doing so for Oilers. Even if Murray fails here we got that pick and we can either LTIR him or buy him out. If we change guard after this season, there is enough room for at least some sort of retool, but add that 5 million anchor to our cap for 4 more years and you're really in big big trouble. Even Mrazek contract would sting.
We really missed a bullet here and I have nothing against Campbell. Seems to be great person, but I'm really glad he chose Edmonton.
It’s amusing that almost every point in that article is a fail. Will blunder by Toronto Maple Leafs deliver Jack Campbell to Edmonton Oilers?

Fans didn't take it seriously either.I don’t think the player will ever take the World Cup serious. This generation of players grew up watching the Olympics. They want to win the gold medals!

AA Ron Ekblad is back already.
It was ESPN on which certainly didn’t help
