Apparently Mike Babcock might be the next HC of the Blue Jackets according to Larry Brooks.

Imagine if we trade Mitch Marner there? I would pay to see Paul Marner's face when this is announced.

So we’re told by a reputable source that the disgraced Mike Babcock is “far down the line with a team,” and the inference is that the team is the Blue Jackets.

Really, JD?

Or as one player suggested by text, “[Johnny] Gaudreau can’t catch a break.”

Yes I was not referring to you. Something was not right with that Florida team last year and it is why they dumped the coach, Hubbie and Weager. Bennett had been one to show up for the Flames in the playoffs. It was one of the reasons many wanted him.

Sorry some of this stuff is pure f***ing GOLD.

Bennett would be a nice get for the Marlies.

Bennett is bad. Bennett is a slow weak winger. No thanks.

This thread is hilarious. So fricken glad dubas is in charge so I don't even have to worry about the leafs being the sucker team that gives up value for this bust.

The idea that Sam Fricken Bust Bennett is some kind of gritty warrior is hilarious.

There is not a chance in the world the leafs would trade kerfoot for Bennett.

Barabanov for Bennett (50% retained) But I probably wouldn't do the deal anywwys cuz $1.25m is too much for Bennett. Just some wasted capspace for no benefit.

Petan > Bennett.

I don't know how to say this nicely but Bennett stinks and if it wasn't for his draft position he'd be out of the league by now. He is bad at hockey.

I wouldn't touch him on waivers. Neither would dubas. I'm sure a guy like Benning would tho.

No thanks, he's not good. I'd rather have Kerfoot at $3.5 than Bennett at $2.5

Engvall is better than Bennett.

Kudos to the posters who look more brilliant than Dubas two years later.

Sam Bennett is a playoff animal. Why would we not want him? He can elevate his game when it matters most.

He seems to play his best hockey during the playoffs. Could be a decent pickup.

I want Bennett on this team sooo bad. Been wanting him for years. Look at the amount of swagger Simmonds brought to this team, Bennett would take it to the next level.

Would be a great addition to this team. The more warriors the better.

You're crazy if you wouldn't wanna trade Joey Freaking Anderson for Bennett.

I'd love to get Bennett. Maybe some salary retention by them? He's a tough customer and a pain to play against.

A player like Bennett's true value would be seen in the playoffs where the game is played and often won in the trenches.

I would love Bennett on this team-still too soft.

That is the purpose of this thread. To get guys who can play when it counts. I’m amazed how many people disregard Bennett cause he isn’t the star he was supposed to be. He plays a gritty, physical game that this team needs.

Bennett could very well stink at hockey, but he doesn't appear to stink at playoff hockey.

People that think Bennett sucks look up his stats for the playoffs. He shows up in the playoffs.

Wow. That was quick.

I swear any team I want to win this playoffs doesn't. f***ing brutal.

Carolina and Dallas would be a better final but ah well. Going to be tough for those teams to come back now.

Chandler Stephenson, another player who had an abysmal playoff performance record before this year.

Maybe the term clutch is thrown around too often and it may have something to do with getting hot at the right time?

I think there is definitely certain guys that are more clutch in the playoffs then most but yes a team or especially a goalie getting hot at the right time makes all the difference come playoffs.

I think that's why the two teams closest to the Stanley cup are where they are right now. Just on a huge roll at the perfect time.

Just saw this too

It's funny, all of this spilled ink about which skater is clutch, etc...when 9/10 times getting to finals is just about having the hotter/better goalie and a little puck luck.
It is really chicken or the egg here bc if you can score, it means the other goalie didn’t make enough saves. Is it the goalie beating clutch or players(forwards) being clutch.

I hate quoting him but he has the inside track for the Sens sale and it seems like Reynolds is absolutely a No-No. No matter who else wins.

Thank god.

What an idiotic move by the Sens and NHL here.

TBH I dont even know why this became such a big deal lmao. Why does it matter if Ryan Reynolds holds a small ownership of a sports team. He would just be used for publicity (as they clearly just did for this whole thing too).

You can like Reynolds or not but, he's an incredibly savvy businessman and has proven he can market a team well and also find the right brain trust to move it up. He's a brand wiz. Did some case studies about him in our business classes and all they could say was how he utilizes good initiatives damn well.

This was a very prime opportunity and as well out of all the major league sports would've been an incredible boost as well as a PR movement since NHL is kind of lagging behind frankly.

Tulsky is one of the Hurricanes’ two assistant GMs. He has played a pivotal role — including direct involvement on all hockey operations decisions, analytics, scouting and contract negotiations — under Carolina GM Don Waddell. The Hurricanes are in the Eastern Conference final and have qualified for the past five postseasons, winning at least one series each time.

While Tulsky has emerged as one of the top candidates, former Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas’ recent availability might play into the Penguins’ final decision. Sportsnet and TSN writers have reported the Penguins received permission to speak with Dubas from the Maple Leafs, who parted ways with him last Friday.

Dubas was an early front-runner for the Penguins, but he remained under contract to the Maple Leafs during the majority of this search.

The Penguins were willing to offer Dubas full control of their hockey operations department. With FSG looking to hire at least a GM and president of hockey operations, it’s possible the Penguins could look to bring in Dubas as president of hockey ops and Tulsky as GM. The Penguins may also be simply doing due diligence on Dubas, despite being deep into their search.

Dubas and Tulsky are known to incorporate data into decisions — and Henry has instructed Dave Beeston, a Penguins alternate governor, to build out the Penguins’ analytics department, said two team sources.

The Penguins have interviewed candidates, notably broadcaster Ed Olczyk, for a position that would include being a conduit between hockey operations and ownership, said a team and league source.

Beeston, who is overseeing the search process, previously said there was no set timetable for making new hires.
The Penguins fired former GM Ron Hextall, president of hockey operations Brian Burke and assistant GM Chris Pryor on April 14. They failed to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in 17 seasons.

What kind of BS is this?

No reason to expect anything other then a 3-0 series lead here for Florida right? This is some kind of heater they are on. Correct me if wrong, but 9-1 in the last ten, in the playoffs, against the regular season #’s 1, 2 and 4 teams right? Unreal.

anyone remember when the Pejorative Slured oilers gm traded for the one #7d in the league that their captain didn’t like?

What in the hell was that? Was just thinking about it for some reason but some of these managements clearly have issues and are power tripping like crazy. Was that particular #7 really such a necessity to the team and added such value to the team that it would make a difference by not acquiring him?

Idk what made me think of that but it shows that it’s not just Toronto that has management that does or has done weird stuff. I wonder if the players here respect the management.
