And it didn't matter with any other team. Calgary made a deal it liked with the team Tkachuk wanted to go to.

It's a moot point already, but since the Leafs never made a pitch for Tkachuk, he didn't have the opportunity to think about it...it's not like Treliving had the chance to go to Tkachuk and say to him, "How would you like to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs? They want you!"

Which defenseman were the Leafs trading that was going to be better than Weeger?

Nylander and Liljgren for example likely would have been turned down

I'm not sure we know if Calgary talked to any other teams.

nah canes aren't the leafs and just quit when down, this thing will go 6 or 7.
Idk they can’t break Bob, they have 1 EV goal through two games

Bobrovsky doesn’t let more than 2 goals in.

Andersen/Raanta aren’t good enough imo to win even 2 games letting in 1 goal max to these panthers

Carolina has now lost both of their two games at home, and have scored 3 goals through 11 periods. Interesting.
That Matthew Tkachuk is such a clutch and playoff performer.
Said nobody prior to this year. Maybe that should be a warning to those wishing to trade away mid-20s top tier players that some have incorrectly labeled as poor playoff performers. Though he didn't score a goal in the Toronto-Florida series, and we've been told multiple times by a certain somebody that that is all that matters, so maybe he sucks.

Conn Smythe Watch: Leaders for Stanley Cup playoff MVP

Matthew Tkachuk was the cream of the crop in the Conn Smythe odds for much of the second round, but after falling back into the pack slightly last week, he has reasserted himself after Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference Final scoring the winning goal in both games..

Yep, so as we can see, evaluating players exclusively by their goal totals in the 2nd round of the playoffs is incredibly misleading, and even a player that was widely considered one of the worst playoff performing stars in the league as recently as last year can quickly become the leading Conn Smythe candidate. Good lessons to remember.

It's crazy. I've never seen a team with a Horseshoe up their ass like this.

Yes they've played well obviously but the puck luck they get and the calls is crazy.

Do you not remember Montreal?
Carolina from like 2002.
St. Louis was last place and had a 5th string goalie who was so bad he played in bostons system. Boston literally trained a goalie to beat them

Hockey is just an elaborate game of coin flips.

Cinderella teams make it to the final almost every year.

Very rare they win

I never liked that Niedereiter guy. One of the dirtiest and most disrespectful players I've ever seen. But man, that skate stomp by Veleno was awful. If it were my place for judgment, Veleno would be out of the tournament. It seems there was no injury but a severed anything in the foot/ankle is essentially the end of a career in hockey.

15 points in 27 playoffs games prior to this season.

“Clutch playoff performer”. Recency bias at it’s finest. But that’s all it takes, one hot post season and they are labelled as clutch.

Could happen to any of our stars in the upcoming years.
Took Matthew 3-4 playoff runs to get it. Our guys, it's 7 playoffs and counting.

Not that I'm trying to defend Matthews, but that play in was considered as playoffs, so he has one career playoff OT winner.
The stats go in with the playoff stats, but we all know that wasn’t the playoffs.

When the season shut down they were in a playoff race, after that series they were in the draft lottery.

The difference is though the type of player

He could have no points in games and still have big impacts in games. Which he has

Our stars can only be impactful if they are on the score sheet

You just can't help but admire his leadership skills right now

Matthews is really only impactful when he’s playing strong D.

Tkachuk had his first and only above PPG playoff series at 25, in his 6th playoff series.
Matthews had his first above PPG playoff series at 22, in his 4th playoff series.
Marner had his first above PPG playoffs at 20, in his 2nd playoff series.

Both Matthews and Marner have a higher career playoff P/GP than Tkachuk.

And if Tkachuk can go from a playoff joke to leading Conn Smythe candidate in one year, just imagine what already good playoff performers like Matthews and Marner could do in future years. Hopefully they'll do it while leading us to a cup, instead of another team.

f*** PPG. Marner showed it means nothing. None of our guys has put their team on their backs in 7 attempts like MT has done these playoffs. None !!! If one had, your stick boy might still have a job.

Yes, we hope one of them can do it for us. Question is how long do you keep running the same guys back thinking this will be the year one does it ??

Lol. For years and years, it's repeated ad nauseum that the only thing that matters in the playoffs is actual production.
Now actual production hurts the narrative, so suddenly it means nothing and the only thing that matters is some imagined quality of "putting the team on their back".
Which really just translates into their team won, and has nothing to do with their actual individual contributions. Tkachuk hasn't put the team on his back any more than Matthews or Marner have. The difference is that Tkachuk has a goaltender doing that, resulting in team success.
