Then nerds and failed engineers took over baseball stats and helped turn it from a national to a regional game. Not to mention that the godfather of baseball stats said most said nerds use stats incorrectly.

Who's the godfather of baseball? A quick Google search said Jim Thome, but I don't think that's who you're referencing

If it were up to the dinosaurs of the game, we'd be looking at borderline useless stats like AVG and RBI to evaluate hitters.

People still arguing over analytics in sports? lol.

If you only knew the analytics at the disposal of teams in every organization, in every sport. This isn't something that just came up in the last 2-3 years, it's been like this for 20+ years, and the teams that got ahead of it benefited greatly because of it(Devils, Wings, Spurs, Rays, Red Sox, Patriots etc).

The problem is, the average sports fans is a simple person. They don't like the game complicated too much for them, and that's fair. But to completely discredit something because you don't understand something is crazy.

People keep trying to say that it's "nerds doing this in our game" lol, sports are highly competitive and highly lucrative, teams are going to try to get as many STRAGETIST on their side to win.
I think it's more about nerds shoving flawed stats down people's throat in a bid to show something that isn't fully true. Imo

Like when a trade happens and someone just posts the old JFresh graphs. It's like, K.

That definitely is an issue.

I rewatched highlights from the last two playoffs and Campbell was atrocious. He plays so small... And his style is random. He looks like am 80s goalie. I knew this before, but watching it back it looks even worse.

Right place at the right time, getting traded to Toronto, leading to that contract from Edmonton.

For a team fighting for their playoff lives, Flames don't look inspired at all. They were pretty lifeless in the 2nd half of the Leafs game and now laying an egg vs the Wild

The Wild are really sound defensively. Gave up next nothing

That Sandin kid looking good. Nice find Washington. Must be nice to be on the other side of a Martin Erat trade
I don't remember the first round pick going with Erat......

But if lying makes your soul feel better......speaks volumes

Nothing was "shoved down your throat" (you jumped into the discussion on your own), and stats were utilized to show something that was 100% true. Eyssimont had a really bad game. If somebody has 0 shots, shot attempts, and expected goals while they're on the ice, while bleeding all of those against, that is bad. There is no "well, but" or missing context that can make that not bad. Yet we're having this multi-page discussion because you were so upset that somebody dared use statistics appropriately and point out something interesting that is extremely rare.

Good thing we don't have any of that toxic masculinity behind the Leafs bench. Better to just eat your emotions like a certain someone has done since becoming a head coach.
What are you even talking about? Keefe literally got fined 25k a couple months ago for going after bad officiating. Was this just a bad excuse to take a shot at somebody's weight?

Holy some of you are so melodramatic with Sandin. They were playing the sharks. Wait until the Caps get Carlson back and see how he fairs.
I get 3 point night and all, but if you actually watch the assists, they aren't exactly highlight reel either.
First one he pinches in to the winger position, throws the puck to the front of the net, and it bounces around and gets knocked in with a stick mid-air.
Second one is a basic pass to Ovechkin on the PP, and they score on the rebound.
Third one was him leaving the puck for a player at the blueline, and the player and Ovechkin pass back and forth and score.

Byfield better start doing more soon or picking him over Stutzle is going to look quite bad.

Byfield 35gp 2 goals, 13 assists
Stutzle 58gp 31 goals, 35 assists

Its already is awful. GM's love their big Canadian kids. Wonder if anything would have changed if the season didnt end suddenly. But Byfield has not really improved his game at all since being drafted. The same issues that he had pre draft are still there today.

Another note from that draft, its hilarious how much of a better player Mercer looks than Laf. Same draft, same league, Laf was racking up the points in junior (Mercer did quite well too) but they dont even look on the same league right now in the NHL 3 years later.

Despite laf playing an extra year in the NHL, Mercer has surpassed his NHL career totals.
