Probably. Doubt Hyman was interested in taking a discount because some of the bigger guys didnt.
Despite Hyman always playing on a 5v5 line with Matthews and Marner/Nylander, he didn't put up the same numbers compared to them. I know he wasn't on the #1 power play line, however if you look at his stats with Toronto they weren't at the same rate that got Marner his current contract.

I watch many Oilers games and Hyman seems to play in the top 6.

Be nice to know his percentage of time per line combination.

Somewhere he's getting pluses.

Can’t believe Jim Rutherford is tarnishing his legacy like this in Vancouver.
Honestly, all they need to do is win a few games in the next week or so and all will be forgotten.
Or if they draft Bedard or Fantillo, all will be forgotten. And most Nucks fans feel this way.

Exactly. You think the media voting on the award would have enough brain power to put some thought into their votes but they clearly dont...

People been saying the Islanders have been getting extremely lucky those 2 years that Lou won it but the media can't see that apparently. Everything screamed that they were overachieving so much. Hell, in 2020 they were on the verge of missing the playoffs but got saved by Covid and Lou still someone won that year cause they went to the conference finals.

Just last draft Lou traded away 13th and 98th overall for Romanov.

Romanov is still young but I don't think there's much upside. Such an unnecessary trade when they could've used those assets for a scoring winger

Speaking of bad trades, that Toews one was a fire worthy offence. Some will say he had to be traded due to the cap situation and the pandemic, but Lou put them in that position with awful signings (lol Komarov and Pageau). Apparently it came down to Leddy or Toews, but they ended up trading Leddy anyway the following summer lmao

I've also heard that with Toews in the mix, someone like Mayfield would've been exposed in the expansion draft. How about you keep talented players and then cross that expansion bridge when you get there? Toews was a rising player and essentially traded for peanuts. Lou went to Sakic and said, "here's Makar's D partner for the next 5 years"

Absolutely brutal trade at the time, and it's 10x worse in hindsight.

The craziest part is that he spent more on Romanov than he got for Towes. Even ignoring his play with the Avs, Towes was at worst a #3 on a bubble team at the time of the trade while Romanov was a bottom pair D on the worst team in the league.

Islanders need a center more than anything. Barzal is not a center, and Nelson is a borderline one himself.

If you could put those two on one line, and add a Horvat to the group, it looks a lot better. Problem is, they probably can't make that happen.

Pageau for 5 mill is nowhere near as bad as Palmieri or Bailey for 5 mill though. Pageau's contract is actually pretty good for what he brings. Top notch PKer, excellent in the dot, makes his linemates better, and can put up 45-50 points in a shutdown 3C role. He does get PP time too but he is not much of a factor there. He is effectively Kerfoot if Kerfoot was good enough at FO's to play center full time, and people will be surprised to see what Kerfoot gets in UFA...

No kidding, its why he got less.

If anything Hyman playing with Matthews and Marner at 5v5 is why he got 7 years and $5.5 million from Edmonton as a UFA.

Look at how much Connor Brown's production went down once he was taken off Matthews line during their rookie year after the 2016-17 season.

Boston is unreal. They are gonna have the presidents trophy locked up in no time then they can just cruise to playoffs and the team will be well rested and ready to play.
I highly doubt this is going to happen, but wouldn't it be great if they get swept in the first round like we saw happen to Tampa in 2019, after they won the President's Trophy and their historical regular season.
