So he failed so far to land us that sort of playoff-winning goalie, and we have no other NHL goalie under contract other than Mrazek who's clearly not up to task.

That's a huge concern, based on how important the position and this upcoming season is, yes?

Not sure how many more chances Dubas has left with the Leafs to just roll the dice on random journeymen goalies.

We running it back with Dubas Keefe and Shanny? Rangers are gonna do what we haven't in 54 seasons after rebuilding for like 3 years. At least we got respect in the handshake line right? Watching the Rangers play makes me sick of the Leafs flawed roster construction. Did those players look afraid to hit? To go into the corners and battle?

Was a horrible contract. Who the hell pays an expected backup 4M for 3 years? At best he should have got the Reimer contract.

It actually was a good bet initially given the situation. Off load mrazek for the cap space back if it turns out not needed.

Where it becomes another Dubas blunder is when teams had interest in mrazek mid season yet he still didn't ship mrazek off. Now the trade value bottomed out to zero and we are stuck until mrazek builds some back.

I guess I'm not allowed to critique Dubas holding onto mrazek when window opened to trade because as usual it made sense at the time to keep him

Honestly if AM and MM and others only want to hear they are good and can’t do no wrong, they will never win the Cup and I don’t want them to be on the Leafs.

Other teams always put up way more effort against us and this is a known fact. Therefore, we were beat by the Cup winning version of the Lightning unlike the version the Rangers are playing.

Throughout the series he should have said over and over they need everyone pulling the rope in the same direction if they want to advance. Ultimately he’s the guy that let them practice their fly by and pirourett around the rink.

Rangers did not force even ONE cute play. WHen the shot was there they took it. When the shot was not there they took a slapshot forcing tampa to either block the shot or battle for the puck which rangers won the race to more often than not.



Keefe is trash.

I heard or read that the Leafs scored one rebound goal in seven games, and even that was a brilliant pass off the pads.

1.) literally every team says they want to get the split at the other teams barn. This has been a standard statement for the 30’years I have watched hockey. Why this is controversial is silly

Of course you want to win every game 10-0 and sweep every series. But a coach coming off a loss heading even 2-2 with home ice advantage would say the same.

2.) Boston looks like it might finally be over. Mac. Gryz out for 6 months. Bergy might not be back? Lindholm with a massive concussion

You don’t want injuries for anyone but time seems to have caught up to them.

3.) all I want is maximum chaos for ufa. Teams need to lose their top ufa. That way there is no way dubas let’s Matty play out his final season

As much as the pretty plays are nice they did that way too much. Stupid back passes etc. I get they're a possession team and hold the puck a lot but so many times they try and pass it into the net. Sometimes they just need to put the puck on net and get a rebound. I think that's part of the problem.

I made a post about this awhile back looking at our expected rebound shots for 5v5, our actual rebound shots for 5v5, our rebound shots above/below expected and how many rebound goals we have scored in the playoffs 5v5.

The past 3 playoffs (5 games vs CBJ, 7 vs MTL, 7 vs TBL) we have scored a total of 2 rebound goals in 19 games when playing 5v5. This is obviously a extremely low number and just for comparisons sake both TBL and EDM have scored 7 rebound goals just these playoffs alone at 5v5.

We ranked #2 in the regular season in expected rebound shots for but ranked #13 in actual rebound shots for and #21 in actual rebound goals scored 5v5.

Carolina ranked #3 in expected rebound shots and was #1 in actual rebound shots for

Looks like in the playoffs we're not scoring nearly enough 2nd chance rebound goals. There could be a few reasons that this is happening.

JBB has a lot of leeway in Tampa but that Hagel trade was a borderline fireable offence. I know he was trying to make magic again like the Coleman move but the price paid was nuts. I'm not convinced Hagel is a top 6 forward.

Seeing the Rangers beating up on Tampa made me truly realize how badly constructed the Leafs are. You don't win in this league without a Norris caliber D and or a very good goalie that shows up in the playoffs. I will maintain this, that Matthews first year and making the playoffs was the worst thing to happen to this franchise in a while (not the draft lottery, that was obviously huge). One more year of bottoming out and the Leafs could have had Heiskanen or Makar and actually had a true number 1 blue liner, Rielly would be carrying the second pairing and Tavares likely isn't an option to sign here for the team is deeper and better for it overall. I am not going to sound like some downer saying we will never get it done because all it takes is one good year and you can win it all but from top to bottom, the forwards minus Marner and a few others don't like getting dirty in the playoffs, our goalies suck and we have no true number 1 D.

But your point in counterintuitive… the Rangers show that you don’t need high picks to build a competitive roster….

Shesterkin was a mid-round 2014 pick when the Rangers were competitive. Fox, Trouba, and Lindgren were acquire through trades.

Well one of the reasons is come playoffs... yes overall they played well but they still lost... and they didn't get those greasy goals enough where you have to take a cross check or a glove to the face to score.

I think we all know they need more of that. I'm not saying face punchers but guys who can actually get in tight to the net and have a scoring touch but they can also take and give hits etc.

Unfortunately those types aren't easy to find.
