It'd be a fun way to start Montreal's new era. They want to go big fish hunting int UFA. If they can move Price's contract - who knows what happens.

But if Hertl gets that, Kadri gets the same over 7 years (at least) which is a $9.25 AAV :popcorn:
Kadri's next contract is just so interesting, I can't even imagine what it might be and who might pay it. And then it's also super interesting how he plays going forward! I always liked Kadri, hope he does well. Damn what might have been if he could only control his emotions better though I suspect that we would have gone after JT anyway so ...

Many on this board can sleep tight knowing Dubas held out and did not give up a 1st. Panthers D now has Chariot, Ekblad, Weager and Gubas. Not good for our boys if they want it easy.
I'll sleep easy once the TDL has passed and we still have our first.

Steep price paid by Florida but Chiarot will fit their D perfectly. He’s underrated around here and actually a solid d-man who skates well. Players like Chiarot excel come playoff time when the whistles are put away.

Don't really care about the pick that much with the current core signed for the next little while, but I don't think it would have been a good idea for the Leafs to pay that. Chiarot looked his best beside Weber and Toronto doesn't really have that kind of dman to pair him with. Florida does with Ekblad.

I agree though that Toronto needs more bite in their d corp.

By excel do you mean getting outscored 13-21 at 5v5 in the playoffs?

Kadri turns 32 before he plays a game on that next contract, age isn’t on his side here. It’ll be interesting to see what the term is like, it’s funny to see what a contract year can do for a player , he won’t touch these offensive numbers again.

I have no idea where he ends up, can’t see him taking the biggest offer to join a bottom feeder. I think he’s better off staying in Denver for less term higher AAV.

Well yes of course that stat tells the entire story doesn’t it.
If it's not goal differential what is it? The advanced stats are barely better. He takes more penalties in the playoffs than in the regular season. Hell, he even has better stats in the regular season than in the playoffs. What does he do that makes him a playoff defenseman other than being "tough"?

yes and by whistles being put away, they mean Chiarot goes from 0.36 penalties taken per game in the regular season to 0.44 per game in the playoffs

The whistles were put away. If they called him on every legitimate and egregious infraction he committed, he would have spent more time in the box than on the ice.

I'm a Kadri fan but at this point... Id give him a max 5 year deal at 7mil. That's probably even rich. Colorado probably can't... he'll be going else where.

The last year or two could be rough. He's having an amazing season but he'll be no Hertl over his career.

I feel like Hertl is going to peak the next few seasons. I think 8 is still long with him but he'll only be 36 so not terrible. The Sharks problem is the other contracts. They're going to have to peddle a few.

It's funny saying all this I'm just thinking if you peak as a player at about 26 to 28 or so... you can really bank. Otherwise you are probably getting screwed a bit.

I think Kadri is like 0.685 ppg
Hertl is roughly 0.66 so far... but I think hertl on a big upslope. Kadri can't do better than this year.

Again Kadri has had a great career so far but this is peak.

I want to see the Leafs play them I the playoffs. Even if we don't we will see how we match up against them 3 times before the playoffs. Should be can't miss hockey.

I would not pay it either but some thought nobody would and somebody did.

Some hate Chychrun but if price is right, I'd give up my first in a deal for him. He is making half what Nurse makes for 3 more years. By that time Muzzin and Brodie will be off the books.

San Jose now has half of their cap locked up in the following for the next 3 + years:

Hertl (28) - 8 years starting next season
Couture (32) - 5 years remaining starting next season
Karlsson (31) - 5 years remaining starting next season
Burns (37) - 3 years remaining starting next season
Vlasic (34) - 4 years remaining starting next season

And they have to re-sign Meier after next season as he's a pending RFA .. And he'll get a big contract too.

And they're in second last in the division. After missing the playoffs last year.

Yikes.
Sometimes I wonder if it is due to the market that wilson believes this needs to be done...but then I realize Poile is also similarly been in those shoes and he's done a much better job than...well Wilson.

Regarding Vlasic, he…

…was so good in his prime;
…seems to have been around forever;
…somehow still has four years left on that deal;

and, most shocking to me

…is only going to be 35 at the end of the month. :oops:

He seems like one of those players you think is much older than he actually is.

There was a time you couldn't stop hearing about Karlsson. Now you don't hear about him at all

I really want to see the Sabres play like gangbusters against the Oilers tonight. Or do they only play like that against the Leafs?

Hoping they don't lay down like cheap hooker tonight.

Curious, how do you see Niemelainen?

The team [Oilers] already sent him down but he's interesting. Hits with a smile. I mean, not unlike Chiarot as a defenseman type overall, if not quite there yet.
