Oilers literally gave up in the end. For all the people who criticize the Leafs, be happy for our team. Now we need to raise our standard obviously, but just be thankful we are not the Oilers.
They seriously give off game 7 leafs vibes every game. Oilers look mentally fragile. They aren’t gonna win a game unless their goaltender pitches a shutout. One mistake, a bad goal or mis play and they crumble.
Coach has lost the room aka babs

they gotta make changes or else another year of McDrai gone

The Oilers didn't look that bad the first half of the game. I'd even go as far as to say they looked like they were the better team. Florida was patient and showed how much better of a team than they are than the Oilers.

Koskinen really is awful even if it isn't all his fault, he's let in some stinkers this season. Can't win though if your team can't offer any goal support, but Koskinen is utter trash.

It's always a joy to watch Edmonton lose. 2 wins in their last 15 games if I'm not mistaken. Fun watching that team continue to spiral downward.

The Leafs have been trending that way lately as well. I think they'll get over their slump and not go down the same path Edmonton has.

To be fair, while we are lifeless in pressure games, at least it won't snowball to an embarassing score. What the Oilers did was just don't know

I think most teams should be happy they aren't the Oilers. I don't think they are even NHL average in any area of their roster. They also don't really have much in the way of prospects or appealing trade assets

You know Noodles is going to say something like that tomorrow.

May have a bit of a point if he does.

Even still, we’re well beyond the point where winning on the stat sheet is worth anything. “Morale victories” don’t exist when you haven’t won a game in over a month, COVID break be damned.

it was still a pretty winnable game for Edmonton in the 3rd period, but they gave up and shat the bed.

But yeah, maybe you can build on two strong periods if they didn't just get 8 points in their last 16 games and have to deal with being publicly scolded by a journalist. This probably adds to their being demoralized if anything

Maybe but when you quit in the end and lose 6-0, the effort in the first 40 doesn't matter. Just an awful built team.

That Barkov shorthanded goal was the definition of a momentum sapping softy. Cannot go in.

Having said that, the offense needed to bury at least a couple of their glorious chances in the first two periods.
true, but what can you really expect of Koskinen? Chiarelli gave him an insane contract, and then Holland doubled down by betting on him and Smith to be their tandem this year. Then Tippett threw him under the bus and mangled what little value was left in him as a goalie. He sucks, but Edmonton made their bed with him. The issues run a lot deeper than goaltending too
