i swear it feels like deja vous every year with the oilers. each year one aspect of the team starts out like gangbusters(like special teams or unsustainable starts by depth players) and everyone says "oilers are different" then things quickly normalize and they become the same team, a team that cant win without a mcdrai carry.

wtf happened to them? they have made recent deep runs in the playoffs...

A long road trip to start the season, got hit with COVID, aging roster core

A bunch of issues.

They are better than they’re showing but they’ve put themselves in a deep hole to get to the playoffs. They can’t have any more extended losing streaks.

They both put up better defensive numbers last year and to start this year.

The problem is that they can't win if they concentrate on D first because no one else can score.

The two of them have tried for years but the Oilers have pretty much given them not much to work with.

I would take either one in a nanosecond.
McDavid did, but Draisaitl has pretty much always been terrible defensively. I'd obviously still take both of them on the Leafs, but they aren't beyond criticism

Other problem is not enough higher end skill outside of Barzal. Scoring by committee works sometimes, but it's hard to drive a team that way when things stop going well.

I'm not sure if a coaching change will do much. It's a very flawed team. At least with the Canucks, they had some depth and a good goalie when Bruce stepped in, so their current streak isn't surprising. Now I don't think Vancouver is this good, but they were better than how they played under Green.

As usual with the Oilers, it starts at the top. Holland needs to go.

Looks like we vs. the Oilers on a losing streak again
They are terrible, they do have the number one PP in the league, having said that they are only 1 point up on LA for the final wild card spot. Imagine how bad they are if we stay out of the Penalty box.

Canucks have a real group of talent.

Pettersson Miller Garland Boeser Horvat Hoglander Hughes Demko is a legit good place to start, and they have some pieces beyond that too.

They've still got a whole bunch of roster and cap issues but nowhere near the Oilers issues. I mean Hyman is the 3rd best Oiler and he'd be in tough to keep a top 6 forward spot on the Canucks.

Oilers need to play defense, easy to blame the goalie but it's really the team defense at issue here. I hope they hire Babcock - not saying Babcock will fix what ails them, I just want Babcock to get off our payroll and see him put a governor on McDavid.

Too funny Tippet says they were playing well.

The Rangers were skating circles around them for most of the game. The oilers showed up for about 10 minutes around the time they scored, that was it.

Isles and Oilers fans have been making fun of Dubas and his age, his glasses, his name and his moves.

look who’s laughing now suckers!

they wish they had a young mind up there running things.

two orgs stuck with dinosaurs running a 2022 team.

You can make that argument against Oilers sure. Hard to say anything against the Isles, they played 41 playoff games last 2 years
Hard to criticize a team that has better playoff records than we do
