We pass them today when they lose.

Of course, they (and fla and wsh) are only ahead of us right now thanks to shootout points, anyways.
Washington is down 2-0 as well now, could end up third in the league for points% in a couple of hours

I can still see NYI making a bit of a playoff push, but not much else. Tough to see our cutoff line being 100 points to make the playoffs too, so someone is due for a drop.

Side note- how many teams in the West would make the playoffs in the East? Colorado, but anyone else is questionable and would fight Bos/Pitts IMO

Vegas healthy is a legit playoff team in the East but with how over run by injuries they were they might not have been able to stay afloat in the east like they did in the west.

Nice to see quite a few former Leafs draft picks and players developed in our system carving out a career as role players:

Barabanov: 19 points in 29 games

Trevor Moore: 11 points in 33 games

Marchment: 10 points in 13 games

Toninato: 5 points in 27 games

Joshua: 4 points in 17 games

Duzi: 7 points in 15 games

Sam Carrick: 10 points in 27 games (8 goals)

Only neat because majority of these players were never expected to take many regular shifts if any at all in the NHL.

The only one I really wanted to bring up was Sam Carrick because that guy was just always all effort and hustle and hard work. Just nice to see for him.

I don't know man.... Boston is starting to click and has games in hand. Watched Isles a bit and they seems to have found their game/ same with the devils - yea its a tall order but you never know.

Boston is in a wild card spot. Passed Detroit with their win who they have a ton of games in hand.

I don’t think Boston has the horses. Their number one center, Patrice Bergeron, is 2 years younger than Jason Spezza.

The fact that they hired a perfectly good GM in Jeff Gorton and are going to hire a French Canadian executive/mascot to play politics is proof enough the Habs will be dysfunctional for a long, long time.

Why don't they just beef up the "community ambassador" role a bit since that's all this new "GM" will be. Gorton can build a team well, he's just going to be hampered by this BS along the way.

That whole franchise has lost the plot. I'm a Leafs fan and I can tell you their greatest success in the Original Six era was the result of two Ontario guys in the GM and coaching positions (Frank Selke and Toe Blake) and their best post expansion decade was put together by two Anglo Montrealers in Sam Pollock and Scotty Bowman. So if they just read a Wikipedia entry, they'd realize those key building positions never needed to be French Canadian, and the common language is actually winning.

I know this is said about every high offense dman but would it not make sense to try Barrie on the wing considering how atrocious he is at defense?

like I think a replacement level dman + Barrie as a winger is better for the team than Barrie as a dman + a replacement level winger.
Barrie literally does not backskate when playing the rush on D, that shocked me when he came to our team how bad he was on defense. You're right they should probably play him on the wing and put a defensive minded slug out there on D

I remember reading an analysis not long ago where if you looked at drafting success through the lens of number of players to play say 100 games or more, Toronto was one of the best drafting teams. We hit on guys who can carve a career, just miss out on late superstars.

Bruins are in the WC spot now.

The Islanders are not going to make the playoffs. Yes I would be shocked if they did. The Oilers no I wouldn't be shocked as they play in a dog shit division.
If you compare the results of each division, by totalling points and dividing by total games played, you get these point %:

M - .599
A- .528
C - .549
P - .557

If you look at just the end of regulation, which makes the overall points % exactly .500, the results are similar, but a bit lower:

M - .548
A- .469
C - .484
P - .500

So at the moment, the Metro is the toughest, the Pacific is second, and we are actually in the "dog shit division" (thanks largely to Ottawa and Montreal).

Considering their brutal start and being in the toughest division, I'll be surprised if the Islanders make the playoffs, but not shocked.

There is maybe one team in the Pacific that would make the playoffs playing in the Atlantic. The fact Ottawa and Montreal are dog shit isn't gonna matter much when you have 3 teams in the top 5 of the league...and Boston to break through. What you have there is about as shallow as a puddle.
