Honorable way out?

Either way, should have happened 5 years ago

I think he legitimately decided it was time to go. He's always been an honest open guy, so I can't see why that would change.

I mean, he's left $4.5 million on the table here, by resigning.

Would you resign if given the option, of being fired, or resigning and giving up $4.5 mil?

I don't know how Maurice kept his job this long tbh.

Been there a decade and has never been able to coach a lick of defense into that team.

From his time as a Leafs coach I found him to be a good corporate front man who could sound terrific at the lectern but his coaching was just some kind of mediocre. I bet he could dominate a board meeting. Deep voice, long winded anecdotes, sarcastic dry wit, know it all personality.

I think he’s basically famed for a couple of random runs by overachiever teams and then the rest of the time it’s underachieving with talented, sleepwalking teams.

Maurice sounds tired of operating under the Covid restrictions. You put up with the stuff because you're told there's an end of it coming. When it doesn't come in a year's time and you remember your lifestyle during the summer and you've got enough money, why continue with playing along with the safety charade? He's not going to be the last to go this route.

I actually think he did a decent job with the leafs.....but i don't know how any coach stays somewhere for 9 seasons with that kind of track record.

I think the same applies and extends to Cheveldayoff. I like what he has done building the team in the decade he's been there. But at some point the results have to match the expectations. We may joke at the prognostications of them being considered Cup contenders over the years, but I do think they had the pieces in place to rightfully be deemed one.

true.

though, I have to say that while they are obviously flawed, there was still an impressive collection of talent put together there. I forget what the timeline on Chevy there is so i don't know how much to credit it for him, though....and he for sure deserves criticism for butchering his blueline the last few years, and committing some big money to aging players.

either way - 9 years is a long long time for any gm or coach without much success.

Didn't Dubas make an offer but Foligno decided on Boston?

I mean, if we gave him the same deal Ritchie got I wouldn't have been too upset at the time atleast. Those numbers are pretty putrid though and looks like we dodged a bullet. Outside the top line and I guess Taylor Hall (who seems like a shell of his former self), the Bruins forwards seem pretty awful and most are struggling. I'd imagine he'd put up slightly better numbers here, although fair to say he's more a problem and no solution for Bostons depth scoring issues.
