Is 11.5M for the most overrated goalie in the history of hockey the worst contract in history?

But im just grinding your gears. As a fellow Rangers fan I'm well aware of your hyperbolic hatred of all things goaltender related. I actually enjoy reading your post game Shesterkin assaults on the Rangers boards. I'm a pretty 'see the world in shades of grey' kind of guy so when I come across your vitriolic posts after a particularly bad game, it's almost cathartic for me.

They scored 4 and 5 goals in back to back games. Calling him a redeeming aspect when sporting a 0.900 save % and looks AWFUL more than not is ignorant AF.

Oh you're right man. Two f***ing games when the team scored 4 and 5 goals in back to back games! Throw a f***ing parade. He sure lived up to the 11.5M! He surely got tired from playing two whole games like an NHL goalie and hence today tanked the f***ing team.

To be honest, just like with Georgiev it's f***ing personal with me. With Lundqvist it never was. I f***ing loathe Shesterkin as a human being. Maybe it was his agent or whatever but demanding 11.5M dollars and then imploding is enough for me to hate him more than any player I've ever hated in my life. I legit never had this level of hatred for Georgiev, he was just a backup and when his play fell off the face of the earth he got traded for a 3rd rounder.

But it's not really 'once in a while.' It's literally every playoffs.
This is goalies ranked by playoff wins over the past 5 years. Notice who has the highest save %?

Criticizing Shesterkin and his salary is totally justifiable. He should be on all the time if he wants to be paid like it. But, whenever it REALLY matters, Shesterkin steps it up. He always has.

Well your opinions are just complete nonsense. My response was completely approprate to calling that bum the only redeeming thing about the Rangers. And it's a complete troll because a) it's ignorant and b) pretending like he's good is clearly a dig on the Rangers. The Rangers aren't all that good but they would be easily in wild card position if not for Shesterkin.

Dude he's been in the playoffs this season since January, where has he been? He has lost us way more games than he's won. Playoffs are a fluke. This absolute roller coaster of a regular season is what he is. Playoffs are a small sample size comparably. Even if you don't believe that this season he's lost us game aftter game after game down the stretch and in spectacular fashion.

Oh I dont disagree with you in regard to this season. I was just taking issue with the 'once in a while.' You can't call the playoffs a fluke due to small sample size because he does it every year.

He has been bad this year. Not remotely worth the new contract he signed...but that goes for pretty much the entire Rangers team (especially the other 11+ million dollar player and our recently re-upped 1st OA). This doesn't absolve Shesterkin. I just don't feel the need to single him out when collectively the entire team is garbage. I'd love to see you give Panarin a similar level of shit as you do Shesterkin. He's been as bad or worse.

And to be fair, you also hated Lundqvist, so you're not coming from the most centered of places when it comes to your takes on goalies.

PS: i get your hatred is increased by the fact that casuals and the league gives him a pass more so than the rest of the team. But that's a you problem 😉
 
There’s just a hierarchy of value. #1C, #1D, #1W, #1G.

Teams winning with elite number one centers are numerous. No point in exploring it.

Great D like Hedman/Chara or wingers like Kane are also instrumental.

Finding a Cup winner without an elite C and/or D is tough. Finding a Cup winner without a Vezina nominee is… not. Matt Murray, Corey Crawford, Cristobal Huet, Jordan Binnington, Darcy Kuemper, Adin Hill.

Don’t pay your f***ing goalie 1C money. It’s not even controversial. Rangers should have let him walk and I have no issue standing by that.

I'd argue 1G and 1W are relatively interchangeable and more valuable than both is a 2c. But otherwise, I totally agree.

Well, because we’re treating Shesterkin as not just a 1G but an elite one, I was thinking along Kane, Kucherov, Ovechkin level, but I still agree. Paying goalies 1C/1D money is just proving you’re out of touch.

For me. I look at it like this. Am I better than 90% of this team without me. All these mega contracts happen. But if you are the best, the leader, the face. Should I expect anything past 90% of what this team can offer to be given to just me. And still put together a champion?

If you just want the money and points forgetting about wins and championships sure. But I can say at least for myself I’d go to rings and not break the bank for every dollar. But that’s me.
 
He's far from the worst contract but it's funny how Rangers fans freaked out when I said he's not worth so much more than Hellebuyck.
