I can respect wanting to protect their goalie. I had to issue with the cross check.

The explanation about Terry is kinda BS. I get thinking it was a fight when you are being grabbed but it went on far longer then it needed to if that was the case.

my only gripe with beagle is that he should have stopped once it became apparent the "fight" was a complete mismatch. get a few blows in fine, but there was really no need to keep going

the cross check on zegras i don't have an issue with. although i really don't get people complaining about zegras poking for a loose puck. there were still close to 6 minutes left in the game. if it was under 2 minutes i would understand, but there was still plenty of time left

Yeah, Beagle actually sounds pretty ok in the interview, it's not like he's a bonehead, at least. Obviously, he overreacted and took it too far IMO, which is probably just frustration from their bad game.

Zegras is a bit of a hot-head, which I like. But to not have complementary beef on the team will gonna be a mistake.

Also, just as a thinking exercise but I'm now thinking about whether these things don't happen with enforcers on your team because they are respected by the opposing team, or because the enforcers are bad at hockey and dragging the team down to not have a blow-out wins :sarcasm: Don't take it too seriously, ofc.

Couple things for me. Beagle saying its a fight and that's the way it goes is lame. He probably should have stopped when he saw It was Terry and Terry had not even taken his gloves off.

I have a big issue with the freaking linesmen and I don't agree with Beagle on saying there was nothing they linesmen could have done. They saw it was Terry and he was not really fighting and should have jumped in immediately. They jump in between guys all the time and its mind boggling why they just stood there and watched Beagle pound Terry. This is not 1986 when they let fights go on all the time. Its obvious the NHL has told linesmen to get in between fights for the past several seasons because they try to stop most of them. Its crazy they just stood there like dumb asses.

Oh and f*** you Beagle for Blaming Terry for this.

Enforcers don't deter hotheads losing their tempers in the moment. But I believe they do deter cowards who otherwise wouldn't take liberties because they fear retribution either on themselves or to their teammates. Not everyone is just sanguine about taking a punch. It's actually pretty scary unless you're used to it. So there's deterrence at the margins.

Plus, having enforcers who can play -- who can reasonably play up in your top 6 for a stretch without it being ridiculous -- can bring the temperature down in some situations just by being there, or can prevent what happened to Terry by literally taking that spot on the ice, in situations where you're up by a million goals and the other team has already handed out TWO other cheap shots. So in addition to deterrence from the bench, there's deterrence/protection in deployment, assuming you have a coach who's tuned in to those things.

We don't have the capability for either although I noticed it was Carrick who took Terry's spot, so there's some awareness by Eakins.

Only reason he'd be expecting a fight is that he knew he'd crossed the line on Zegras. Then he smelled blood and went for the kill on Terry. Eakins is right, dude's a f***ing piece of shit coward.

The reporter is as much a tool as the commentator. Him saying Zegras was upset with Beagle about the cross-check is just flat out wrong. Zegras said he didn't care about the cross-check but did care about him beating up a guy who didn't even have his gloves off after a pretty typical post whistle scrum. That's what Zegras said Beagle should be embarrassed about.

The whole organization from top to bottom is f***ing clown shoes.

And all this talk from Beagle about accountability and unwritten rules. If he plays next season I hope he's ready for the accountability that's coming his way.

Matthews has 71 goals in his last 82 games
i wish Matthews didn't seem like such a dick. A friend of mine went to school with him growing up and she said he was also an ass to everyone. Then there was the whole showing his ass to a cop thing that happened a few years ago.

I’ve heard the same thing and the fact that he plays for the Leafs means I can never root for him. Hell of a player but seems like a complete dirtbag.

not sure where else to post this, but Beage explains his side to what happen.

It woulda made me feel a lot better if he showed a little remorse for re-arranging Terry's face... Otherwise, I don't have a problem with most of what he said/did.

I also agree the linesman should have stepped in. FFS, it's just insane (even in this game with Carrick/Carcone)) how they put the players in dangerous situations by jumping into a fight... but for some reason did nothing to stop this beatdown.

Josi should win the norris and is absolutely unreal of a defensemen. He's the only defensemen in the entire league that is carrying his team to the playoffs. If you take away any other defensemen their teams would still make the playoffs (Makar, Hedman, etc) Josi is literally willing his team to the playoffs.

He probably should win the Hart by the pure definition of the award. Toronto media will dictate otherwise but if he was on the Leafs or Rangers he would be a shoe in for it

I just noticed that Makar took 2 years to reach the NHL just like Seider.
Seems that letting Dmen dominate at lower levels instead of rushing them pays off. I think with Dmen it's more important not rush them when compared to Forwards.

I had no idea but William Eklund has not had a good year in SHL.
His point per game rate slide over his previous year and his goal production suddenly doesn't exist.
Combined NHL/SHL/WJC he has only 1 goal.

His team got relegated. Haven't seen any games this year but I'd imagine they are Ducks level bad.
