eklund looked pretty good in his short time with the sharks

still would've rather had him than mctavish

At the draft I liked Sanderson a little hair bit more than Drysdale... I know we didn't have the option to choose between but it will be fun watching them develop vs each other.

I liked them both. Some people were rejoicing when Ottawa picked Sanderson because that prevented our scouts from making the "mistake" of picking him. Personally I had hoped that both would be available so that the scouts could get the guy they liked best, whichever it was. It will indeed be interesting to see how they both turn out.

IIRC we liked Sanderson slightly more and were always going to take one of the dmen assuming Raymond went 4th which he did.

Really? I didn't know that. There is always a lot of speculation, but I didn't know that anything like that had actually been confirmed. The Ducks are usually very tight-lipped about everything.

I recall some quotes after the draft as well that could be interpreted as they liked Sanderson more but can't back that up with any actual source atm at least.

yeah McKenzie said it a day or two before the draft that we were going D.

Murray's post draft comments suggested it as well. Sounded like he had hoped both would be available when we picked so he could trade back a little and still get one.

That we slightly preferred Sanderson was implied I think in an athletic article IIRC. I found this article on the Gulls website which pretty much adamantly said they wanted one of the two dmen.

During the Rangers vs. Penguins game there was a great example of how the Terry fight should have been handled, linesman jumped in and saved Matheson from a beating he clearly wanted no part of and the Ranger player (didn’t catch who it was) let up when he realized Matheson wasn’t throwing and the linesman was jumping in.

Agreed. The funniest part is when Matheson finally get's his sweater back on properly so that he can see and realizes that he is facewashing the linesman .

Yeah... Matthews is something. Hockey is in such great hands right now... Amazing.

Doug Wilson steps down as GM of San Jose. Interesting how he and Bob finish up in their roles as GM in the same season. Their careers (really lives as well) have mirrored each other for a while.

I get on my ipad every night before I fall asleep, and watch the sportnet highlights on youtube. I swear, Matthews scores every game, or it seems like it.

Matthews gets all the credit but it’s Marner that drives his production. He’s got the best playmaking winger in the game driving the play on that line. He’s a great player but he really benefits from playing with Marner.

For anyone who doesn’t buy it look at Tavares’ goal totals pre Marner and post playing on a line with Marner.

He gets the credit because that shot is ridiculous. everyone on the ducks would be taking the same looks and missing the net or shooting right at the goalies logo.

Hes got 74 goals in his last 84 games.... Of course he gets most of the credit.

Love watching players that actually like playing DEFENSE. Insane PK skills defending the line like that some of them were even 5 on 3's....

Maybe it’s just playing against the Rangers but Rakell looks pretty meh in the 3 full games I watched him. He went from playing with a developing rookie C still very wet behind the ears, to an established elite C. So yeah...

When playing at the edge of your stick is a good thing. Seriously, that guy looks like his stick is another limb. So much control and spatial awareness.

Sucks to see this absurdly high scoring era of hockey and here we sit...

Edit: somebody has to be the team letting IN all those goals I guess. #doingourpart
