Why are people eager to dump on Caufield?

I get the Canadian media and fans can be annoying, but Cole is one of the best goal scorers to ever come through the American development system.

Scored a goal per game in juniors, NCAA, and AHL. I think some hype is warranted.

Also, so many young players in this sport over the years have been given preferential treatment in development simply because they were ~6'4 200lbs. Cole is at where he's at purely because of merit. It would be nice to see him succeed.
i'm just giving him a hard time because of his size honestly, i'd like to see him succeed too but man, he was just bouncing off people out there

also mods just blessed me with the return of my like privileges! likes for all!

I'm eager to dump on him because Canadiens fans suggested he was carrying everyone from Turcotte to Hughes on those USA teams

Other than smack talking the Habs fans though I'm rooting for him.

I'm not eager to dump on Caufield. I do think the media hype is out of control, and that some Habs fans have unrealistic expectations.

He's not perfect, and to suggest he's anything but perfect draws ire.

Cole Caufield is the most feared man in hockey.

Come on man, you have been on this board for 16 years.

Are you really asking why a 5'7, one-dimensional goal scoring winger is being dumped on by some people on this forum? This type of player has never been supported much on this forum. Whether it's the Kings trading for one or drafting one, people have always preferred the safer, lower ceiling type that the Kings have largely drafted for much of the past 15 years.

And yes, he does warrant the hype based on what he's done this season. Time will tell how he does in the NHL, but Hobey Baker at 19, 3 goals in 2 games in the AHL, already on an NHL roster and contributing to an NHL team in D+2 is a pretty nice start.

It’s so true. The Kings have a habit of picking these higher floor, ultra low ceiling guys while passing on players who are electric but come with some question marks and people wonder why they have a lack of pure goal scorers in the system.

Kaliyev is one guy they took who fits that “Well, he has top 10 tools but he can be kind of an enigma or diva” type of player and the only reason they took him was it was such a no brainer at that pick position they could gamble on him.

Fast forward and who is the one guy everyone talks about as a potential sniper who can pot 30? Yeah, the weird guy according to scouts who just love those 10 goal 10 assist types who are two way players and super responsible but never move the needle. We have more than enough of those guys now but as usual, we are hunting for another Kaliyev in this draft.

The Kings need to start doing some gambling and going after guys who have those big ceilings but come with some risks because they have the 3rd and 4th lines covered for the next decade or so.

They have gambled on those guys. Kaliyev, Shafigullin, Simontaival, Chromiak, Grans, etc. are all high skill, boom or bust guys.

Just more evidence that the current coaching staff has no f***ing clue what to do to get the most out of the players

they did trade for players like Madden and Durzi and bring in Frk. All skilled guys that are kind of one dimensional to go along with guys like Kaliyev, Fagemo and Chromiak etc. I think they are slowly going about adding balance for the future. Most those guys would never have had a second look in our past.

hopefully going forward we build a nice balance.

It’s pretty crazy that Nic Dowd is a legitimately good player now. We used to say he was Lewis with even less offensive talent, but now he’s got 10 goals in a shortened season. Good for him.

Kakko and Lafreniere just potted a ridiculous 2-on-1 together. LaF backhand toe-dragged the defender out of the way and fed Kakko who forehand toe-dragged the goalie out of the net for a goal. Lottery luck in NYC.

So after a long sequence where Lehner didn't have his stick for Vegas, he gets it back but is holding it upside down when he tries to make a save and the puck goes right where the blade would have been. Poor guy. lol

A lot of time it's just that perfect fit for guys who bounce around, they'll have a career year out of nowhere. I remember when Donelly got here from Buffalo, just a typical journeyman player. Then bam, he clicked with Millen and Granto. Had a career year, was traded a couple of years later, and never recaptured that.

So how many games does Wilson get this time? I’m thinking playoffs and half of next season.
i'd like to see it be a half season minimum, something along your lines is probably fair

that buchnevich crap is like 10 games minimum, more with his history, and that foot sweep throw on a helmetless panarin is one of the most dangerous things i've ever seen on ice. that's how you kill a guy..

Def. agree that that should be a 10 game minimum. This dumbass has a big rap sheet so should get at least double that.

That hit to Buchnevich (while his head is flat against the ice) is unbelievable. Shades of Bertuzzi and Raffi f***ing Torres.
