Watch out--the nerds that have never forgiven Doughty have turned on Hedman

Except this time things like +/- and goals against and deployment matter, funny how that works out eh?

Wonder if they'll ever forgive him when he wins because they've never let go of the Doughty hatred, note they don't say anything about Hedman's last Norris, in which Doughty's metrics over Hedman were even stronger than Fox's (at least at one point, but Fox has come on like a mad man int he last week +)

It's why I've muted those fools.

Norris is a tough one to predict this year. Hedman is the level boss right now, and I don't think this is the year that either Makar or Fox overtake him.

Fox is incredible though, hasn't even played a full season yet and has been a star from the second he stepped on the ice at 21, and he doesn't have the God given that a guy like Makar has. Fox and Hughes both have that offensive zone game sense that is the only thing missing from Drew Doughty his entire career, Doughty's offensive IQ never developed enough for him to be a bigtime scoring d-man but his defensive ability has been worlds better than the Kings probably ever thought when they drafted him. The Kings expected a star when they took DD and they certainly got one, but I would have expected more offense and maybe less defensive dominance.

Tough break for Calgary, drafting a guy like Fox in the 3rd and then never getting him to sign.

Plus/minus stat might be the most useless stat in hockey.

After 18 seasons, Ryan Miller hanging up the skates....

Ryan Miller Will Retire After This Season

Now 40, Miller will hang up his pads as arguably the best U.S.-born goaltender in history. He leads all American goaltenders in wins with 390 over his long career, coming in 14th all-time in the category. His career save percentage still sits at .914 even after the last few years, and he has a cabinet full of trophies.

Coaches in need of a contract

NHL Rumors: Coaching Hits - Roy, Brind'Amour, Green, Tocchet, Blashill, and Tortorella | NHL Rumors

Rod Brind’Amour – Carolina Hurricanes – Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon said that week that an extension will get done, but there is a gap. Believe a deal will get done but it’s not a slam dunk.

Travis Green – Vancouver Canucks – There haven’t been any in-season contract talks. He’s earned an extension.

Rick Tocchet – Arizona Coyotes – Tocchet could move on with no hard feelings and GM Bill Armstrong brings in his own guy. Tocchet may be looking to coach a contending team.

Jeff Blashill – Detroit Red Wings – Not sure where this one is headed. Maybe time for a fresh start as they enter the next part of their rebuild.

John Tortorella – Columbus Blue Jackets – Both sides will sit down and talk to see which direction both want to go. Feeling that they will go in different directions.

The Seattle Kraken still need to name a head coach. The Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens have interim coaches.

Gerald Gallant and the Kraken seem like an obvious choice but they haven’t spoken in a year.

True, I do think they knew what they had. At least sounded like it locally. he just wanted to play for the Rangers. He was a key piece in getting hanifan and Lindholm from the Canes. imagine if the Canes were able to get him inked

Gallant should be able to pick where he goes. Right now if I were him I would look at Detroit before Seattle.

he is not on the hot seat at all, but with new management I wonder about Sullivan in pittsburgh. I do not think the Pens move on but Gallant could be a good fit there. i wonder if the other Pennsylvania team will have an opening too (more likely imo).

I'll argue.

Miller has 56 more wins in 114 more starts. His career save % is .001 % better. He has a Vezina, but no cups, no Conn Smythe, Quick is the all time shutout leader. It's close, but I'd give that moniker to Quick.

Great career for Miller though, no doubt about that.

Don Granato has done a nice job since taking over in Buffalo. I don't know if he would be in consideration for a full time gig there, but he should be. Players seem to have responded well to him.

Wondering if/where Bruce Boudreau ends up. He's mentioned he would like to get back behind the bench.

Why are people eager to dump on Caufield?

I get the Canadian media and fans can be annoying, but Cole is one of the best goal scorers to ever come through the American development system.

Scored a goal per game in juniors, NCAA, and AHL. I think some hype is warranted.

Also, so many young players in this sport over the years have been given preferential treatment in development simply because they were ~6'4 200lbs. Cole is at where he's at purely because of merit. It would be nice to see him succeed.
