Looks like a bunch of NBC regulars are out of jobs come next season. Kinda sucks, hopefully a few will migrate over to Turner, that is if their NBC contract allow them. Just don't hire JR, Milbury , or McGuire.

Klefbom may never play again. Sad for him and the league as I really liked watching him. I think his uncertainty makes Edmonton's decision easier.

Agreed. Also believe players with NMC’s that agree to waive them will ease some of the conundrums teams may have regarding protection strategy.

Personally, I hope teams don’t give into Seattle and make side deals. Don’t want to see a Vegas 2.0 situation. I think GM’s from last time.

Let Seattle suck and experience the growing pains of building from the ground up.

Good column this week, lots of info from Elliotte Friedman.

31 Thoughts: What the Turner Sports TV deal means for the NHL

8. For awhile now, teams have indicated they’d like to reign in coaching/front-office salaries, and we’re going to get an indication of how serious that really is over the next little while. Carolina’s Tom Dundon is one owner who’s mentioned it, and the Hurricanes are working on an extension with Rod Brind’Amour — who sets the tone for a really good team.
A month ago, I’d heard it was a foregone conclusion, but was then warned it was a tougher grind than anyone hoped or wanted. I don’t believe Brind’Amour wants to go anywhere else, and I have always believed this gets done, but it’s been a challenge.

I am pretty sure it will get done, Brind'amour is a great coach whose success has been evident and players love him. Bad enough Dundon won't pony up for a elite goalie, don't go cheap and lose a coach of his caliber

18. The NHL still hopes to go to the Beijing Olympics next winter, but time is getting tight. The league and players are hoping to know if insurance/travel costs are paid by end of May. However, the International Olympic Committee is busy trying to save this Summer’s Games, which take priority. Do not be surprised if there is an All-Star Game next season regardless. There was one in the Olympic years of 1998 and 2002, and it could be used as a send-off for those going

19. Teams were given two schedule options for the 2020–21 season. The Canadian Division will be a one-year wonder, as we revert to the previous set-up.
Option I: Home-and-home with the opposing conference (32 games); three versus the other division in your conference (24 games); 26 in your division (four against five of the other teams, three against the other two). That leads to the previous playoff format, as well.
Option II: Home-and-home with the other three divisions (48 games); four versus each divisional opponent (28 games); leaving room for six “special” games, such as historical or geographical rivals. For example, we could ask for more Toronto/Vancouver — starting at 4:00 p.m. Pacific, of course. Those would likely be divisional playoffs.

Tampa with 14 players under contract and 3.5M over the CAP. Need to make come critical moves. Depending on who they protect, the Kraken should still net a top forward potentially. And getting a complete team inked at the CAP won't be easy, given how many other teams are trying to maintain.

As noted in the article, Tyler Johnson is from Spokane, so that

NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning and the Seattle Kraken | NHL Rumors

Clark thinks the for expansion draft purposes, defenseman Cal Foote and pending UFA Blake Coleman may interest the Kraken as well.
Smith thinks the Lightning could go with eight skaters – Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli, Victor Hedman, Mikhail Sergachev, Erik Cernak, Ryan McDonagh.
Potential top-six forwards the Kraken could have interest in Alex Killorn, Yanni Gourde, Ondrej Palat and Johnson

Spokane is as far from Seattle as Vegas is from LA, so I'm not sure how far that goes. I mean, it's the same state, but barely.

Cozens is gonna get tagged if he doesn't have any defense to his fights. Like Clifford back in the day. Hate to see him eat a fist and get concussed. But you got to love the piss n vinegar

We got one in Lemieux, but outside of KO'ing Manson, he's been kind of just 'there'

I think other than that he has been less than just there. Blind passes out of the zone leading to turnovers, no hard forecheck. Guy needs to play with more energy, which is what he was supposed to bring.

I think they go 7-3-1. Leave McDonagh (32 in July) and his lengthy contract exposed (5 more years @ $6.750,000/yr).

Protect forwards Stamkos, Kuch, Point, Palat, Cirelli, and 2 of Killorn, Gourde, Joseph or Barre-Boulet....tricky call with those four.

Defense - Hedman, Sergachev and Cernak

Goal - Vasilevsky

In this scenario, I would be inclined to take Foote or Joseph/Barre-Boulet, if either is left exposed.

If it were me, I'd be offering Foote+Johnson before the expansion draft to Detroit for a couple of pizzas. Go with the 4F / 4D protection and assume Seattle takes one of Palat/Killorn/Gourde. And then in free agency, find an economical player to fill that void (Marcus Johansson type). Maybe somebody maybe willing to take a one year paycut to land on a contender.

Palat-Point-Kucherov
(UFA)-Cirelli-Stamkos
Joseph-Gourde-(UFA)
Maroon-Colton-Stephens

Hedman-Cernak
McDonagh-Sergachev
(UFA)-Rutta

Vasilevskiy-(UFA)

Maybe not ideal, but that'd leave about 6 million to fill in depth pieces.

Edit: Leaving McDonagh exposed and protecting Palat/Killorn/Gourde might make more sense.

Killorn, Johnson, Gourde would all be upgrades in LA.

Killorn is just Iafallo in a TBL jersey but with the price premium that comes with playing in an east coast spotlight.

But I agree I wouldn't mind Killorn or TJ as mid-age vets, supporting cast leaders/scorers.

Gourde has a longer contract but I’d prefer him of all three.
