Were I a pro, I wouldn't accept playing second fiddle and fading quietly into retirement if I felt I could still play at the highest levels of the game. Knowing how competitive Quick is, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he took another bite at a Cup.

And he shouldn't let something as useless as sentimentality stand in his way either. I would have LESS respect for a player who accepted the sunset than one who pushed against it.

the thing is you have to earn it. If anything a 50/50 split is showing bias to Quick based on who he is and what he has done. Petersen should be playing more than 50% of games. Don't get me wrong I am good with the split as a fan, but I think if either one of Quick or Petersen were to be upset about the 50/50 split it should be Petersen.

Pretty sure Petersen is the go to starter now. After all, he went up against MAF, not Quick. Quick's getting the Sharks tonight.

I'm all for trading Quick if he wants to go out and fight for another cup and some team wants him to be their number one. Same goes for Brown and Carter. If they want to leave, I think LA should explore all options. But I'm against trading these guys for scraps to eke out any value we can, they're too important to the history of the franchise.

I just can't see a scenario for any of Brown, Carter or Quick getting traded. I think they mean more to us keeping them than what we would get in a trade. And I'm not talking sentimental reasons, although that plays a small part, I just think that there aren't going to be any teams lining up for any of those players given their age and their contract status. Unless there's massive overpayment which I doubt there would be I'd be perfectly content with holding onto them until their contract expires or one of them demands a trade which I also don't anticipate would happen.

And I think you could trade them if there were other guys pushing them out, but we're not at that point yet. Brown is having one of his best seasons and with Quick we don't have a homegrown goalie that is ready to step in. Look with what happened with the Rangers, they bought out Lundqvist because they had Georgiev and Shesterkin ready to go. You could maybe explore that kind of move in the last year of the contract, but for now those guys aren't hurting us, performance wise or cap wise.

Out of curiosity I checked out the Blues boards and they have a break down of their schedule vs ours, it was impressive.

Beating up on the Blues has kept the Kings in playoff contention and now they are going to have to go 6 weeks without playing us. I'm starting to feel more confident in that 62 point number being a good estimate of the actual cutoff line.

6 of 25 games against colorado/vegas, the other 19 against california and az.....go .500 for the rest of the season = 57 pts. .500 against col/veg and .630 against everyone else = 62 pts, so win 12 out of 19 games against ca and az?:huh:

The players are less sentimental than the fans, and by quite a bit.

He was coming off of injury. I imagine they wanted to get him into a game. They could have started Quick yesterday too.

Of course, but they also could have gotten him into a game against San Jose and not thrown a rusty guy coming back from injury out against the best team in the division.

Cal has the better numbers and feels like the real #1 but he's started 16 games this year to Quick's 13 which will be 14 after tonight. I think Cal has missed three games this year and Quick has missed five. Grosenick got in the one game when both were out at the same time. After tonight, they will have a 53/47 split. I'm sure Cal would have got one of the opening weekend games he missed but Quick would have got one of those Ducks games and one of the Avs games he missed. So give Cal one more at Quick's expense but give Quick two more at Cal's expense. That gives me 17/13 for Cal after tonight but then I take away two from Cal and give them to Quick for the aforementioned games: 15/15.

Now, that doesn't mean that Cal isn't the "go-to starter" but it does show that they seem pretty committed to running a true committee. They may have a favorite out of the two but they really should have played Cal in both games and gave San Jose to Quick tonight. Them not doing so once again shows that this season is about making the playoffs only in the sense of doing so without deviating from the big picture. Cal should definitely be getting more starts but they aren't going to just put Quick out to pasture and, honestly, I think it is a respect/culture thing that they are doing for the young guys on the team and not to drive up trade value or anything. I'm not a Quick basher but, really, playing Cal more often would be the play if all they cared about was winning games this season.

I agree, at some point the Kings are going to have to make a decision that Cal is the #1. The stats don't lie right now, he is the superior goalie. And the Kings aren't in a position to "wait" for Quick to hopefully get form back? It really should be 70/30 the rest of the way, and can really see if Cal can be a true #1. He is still in many ways a prospect proving himself as well.

Trade deadline fun:

1st + Amirov + Andersen

for

Quick 50% retained + Iafallo.

Given if Iafallo price tag too high for Kings and cannot work out a deal by trade deadline. Kings might be able to patch up Andersen confidence and eventually find a trading partner for him as well.

Dick move, which is expected from a team full of dickheads.

I'm glad they're Canada's problem this year because the whole division's media is now like "wait a minute these guys ARE f***sticks, Matthew Tkachuk is unenjoyable, and his shenanigans mask a roster full of mediocre tools."

That's what happens when your leader 'the guy you'd love to have on your team' punches backup goalies on the bench and spears people behind refs.
