I was done with SCAHA when an opposing player called me a towelhead and when my coach got wind of it, attacked me instead of the opposing player

Thank goodness for bleached 90s hair allowing me to be minority incognito until my late teens I guess.
Yeah that's just garbage.

I hadn't thought about that dickhead in a long time but all this stuff reminded me. The sad thing is according to that bio he's still very much active as a hockey coach, or at least was long after my incident. Amazing the people that get left to influence kids.

Competitive sports can be tough it really turned me off of hockey for a good 5-10 years.
My dad always told me to fight the biggest guy on the team the first day. Whether in practice or locker boxing match. I usually lost the fight but earned the respect of players and coaches so managed to stay clear of getting picked on.

JST as always with a good take imo:

I mean, it was relatively easy for me to walk away from competitive hockey because I didn't leave $ on the table and frankly most of my best friends were lowlifes that were happy I had my weekends back to get in trouble, lol. But I can only imagine what it would have been like coming up as a prospective pro in areas outside of the diversity of California. If the hockey 'good ol boy' culture is that strong here, how bad is it in the rural areas in deep Canada?

So I'm very glad people are quick to corroborate when someone steps up. I'm a big fan of bag skates and other old school methods to a degree, but isolating and alienating players even from their teammates by abuse has to be a line drawn.

carcillo's wildin out right now

i was kinda in his court at first, but now this feels like the narcissist getting a dose of attention and running with it

your dad said to pick a fight with the biggest guy on your own team?

Yea and the other teams also. Id skate with the older teams and have to “man up” also. But you gotta understand your traveling with a bunch of young guys with no parental supervision besides a couple coaches. A coach in particular im waiting for sexual allegations to come out because i know it happened.
Guys on my own teams would do weird stuff like stick a guys toothbrush in their a**hole so when you brush you get a taste. Or piss in the glove. Just nasty strange stuff. So to keep myself from getting picked on id fight the biggest early on and establish my macho-ness. So sad. So i got into guitar pot psychedelics and became a hippy!

Jesus man, i have some totally regular, legal, edible mushrooms if your ever looking to unwind :naughty:

Right now it's just Carcillo so who knows but this could get real ugly real fast. Yikes.

yeah, i get the feeling things are really about to explode. Not surprised Sutters name was brought up, seeing how we all heard about the head games he played with players.

Head games is one thing, but this is the first time ever hearing about Sutter ever physically abusing players.

Funny how this is coming out on the heals of the Babcock and Peters stories from a former player notorious for self promotion post NHL career.

I think Carcillo is full of shit.

Remember when Carcillo tried to concuss other players when he played?

Remember when he physically abused a linesman and got suspended.

Damn man. I agree with you that there’s some really weird shit that goes on. I can’t imagine telling my 2 year old one day to go pick a fight and probably get his ass kicked. I mean I understand the idea but... damn.

glad you found an outlet.

That's because he didn't want to partake in bull**** hazing rituals. He was man enough to stand up to a guy who was bullying him. And others are also corroborating other abusive incidents involving Bill Peters.
Yeah thats fine of him to do so. He was also involved in several other physical altercations with teammates in several leagues. I think he got run out of the KHL for slugging his goalie as well.

He has had people treat him like garbage, and has been unpleasant to be around as well.

Carcillo calls himself out on it, too, though. He's shown remorse. I mean you can critique that as "oh, now the paychecks have stopped, so NOW you want to be a whistleblower?" but he's not a total hypocrite and has been through the muck on both sides himself so he's a pretty good CTE spokesman and isn't totally full of shit. Nothing he has said has been untrue in the past--like, feel free to shoot/character assassinate the messenger, but the message has been solid.

Comparing what he dealt with under Sutter to Peters is reaching, far. And he barely even played under the man and is accusing the entire Sutter family of abuse? Carcillo is an attention whore. I hope he gets sued for slander if he’s going to make these ridiculous allegations. Dustin Penner is also calling Carcillo out on his B.S.

There’s definitely a historical culture problem and bad behaviour has been buried under the code of ‘keeping it in the room’, which of course is BS. Anything that needs to be ‘kept in the room’ for kids hockey is a problem. Of course there are varying degrees of that but it’s a culture that is easily exploited by various types of abusers be that sexual, physical or psychological.

I don’t know about the latest waves of accusations, but over the years it’s come up far too often. Surely, it’s time for a proper set of investigations to occur and the game to be cleared of the known abusers. Because we all know they are still out there, still coaching our kids. I include the UK in this, as even though there is a much tighter set of rules it still happens.
