Raask has decided to head home. TOugh for B's, Raask left them in a tough spot, doing this now. I had the Canes in series, but this will make it a bit easier. I wonder how pissed off his teammates are

On the flip side, if Rask’s heart wasn’t in it, this could help the Bruins. Halak has the experience to come in and win.

Mental health and resources should have been factored in for players being isolated from family.

It's part of why I was (and still am) an advocate of cancelling the season. And no, I haven't watched any of the playoffs.

This is 2-3 months of isolation from families. This could go on much further into next season and such resources need to be available.

I respect Raask's decision. So much could be going on here from him being depressed, to his wife suffering from the effects of postpartum depression, or maybe he just wants to be with his newborn.

This is not a one-size fits all situation. The guys who want to play are playing and providing us with great hockey to watch and enjoy. The NHL has done a great job of maintaining the bubble thus far. Good for everyone. Happy they didn't give up.

Yeah, tough call for him but the right one. I wanted to slap Milbury this morning when he gave his "hot take" on him leaving. He all but called him a quitter.

He f'd the team big time. It was difficult to replace a second pairing defender who was gobbling up 23 minutes a game and was under a favorable contract. Trying to fix that with Band-Aids and reclamation projects basically killed the window.

Totally agree. But didn't Richards getting caught in the border the same summer? Those 2 incidents shut the window and DL became desperate.

While I agree Richards situation had impact, his was declining even on the last Cup run. Voynov was getting better and was only 25 years old. We had no replacement for him and lost out on an elite 2nd pairing defenseman for at least five years. That was a killer loss. It also meant moving Martinez into that role before he was ready and forcing him to play right-handed defense. Forced the Kings to trade for a rental in Sekera who got injured and that was the end of making the playoffs in 2015. Easily the biggest factor in the window closing. Can you tell that I'm bitter about Voynov? And it happened during the worst time with social injustice at an all-time high. Careers where ended and people died, and players involved in those incidents were punished less than Slava was. Anyway, end rant LOL.

Not the same at all. Richard's getting caught at the border was a blessing for DL. I loved Richards but he was done 2 years prior to that incident.

Voynov took himself out when we were still good.

Not only did we lose a young 25 year-old right handed defenseman who could chip in offensively, but we also lost him and didn't even recoup any assets.

Thanks, Slava.

There are going to be a lot of hyper talented young players in the Kings locker room over the next 2-3 years. They need to be insulated and developed the right way around the right vets.
I agree mostly but we don’t know what DD is like with regards to the kids and how he works with them. He is emotional no doubt and has his flaws because of that, but he may be great at helping them with their games, whilst being open and honest about what he could be better at. So, I don’t rag on Doughty for his emotion, he is who he is. Yes, he seems like a relatively immature guy that think farts are funny (so do I, it’s not a criticism) but that doesn’t make him a bad guy or a bad player, it just means he shouldn’t be relied on to be a key leader other than in leading by example... so no ‘A’. It is quite a big leap to say that he is a bad influence on the kids especially when I’ve not seen even the slightest rumour of that (which would be out there if it were the case).

Based on the current roster it should be Kopi, Carter and Brown with one of the young guys getting a letter when Carter goes and they’ve locked up a roster spot. Vilardi and JAD are definitely potential leaders, but next season would be waaaaay too early. Maybe even Byfield gets a letter... (Whilst I’m making a little mischief there, he is a potential future a Captain of an NHL team which is another big selling point).

DD is still Elite, when motivated, and I’m confident that the kids emerging will get him back into the correct headspace. Watch what happens when he is paired with Björnfot... he will raise his game and the old Drew will reappear. His excitement over Björnfot was telling and unintentionally spoke to how he felt about the help he had on D. Another vet blue liner would go a long way to sharing some of the defensive mentoring duties. Putting it all on #8 seems ineffective and an unfair expectation, especially when it doesn’t seem to be a primary strength of his (but who really knows what he says or does in the room).

It’s about creating the right environment for all the players to be at their best and with the right veteran help on the blue line it will get the best out of the kids and Doughty. Hopefully the right guy is available in free agency but if not I’d be happy to use one of the 2nd round picks we have, to trade for someone decent whilst also helping a team with their cap issues. This year is an opportunity to get some really good value, so if they think they can create the correct environment to get the best out of DD it would be foolish to move him.

I know the series isn’t over, but it looks like Kovi is gonna miss out on a chance for a Cup. Who would have thought he’d have a better chance by staying with the Habs? Crazy 2020 season/playoffs.

Reider scored his 3rd shorthanded goal of this playoff series, which ties an NHL record.

the three goals are the first 3 postseason goals of his career, which is an NHL record.

Bennetts having a good game, and hopefully a strong playoffs will help them move him,, prior attempts at trade werre met with low ball offers. Can't see them keeping him, due to CAP.

I think a change of scenery will do him good.

Nice to see Vegas is playing clean with that empty net goal by the Hawks. That was a brutal 2 handed chop on DeBrinkat after he shot the puck.
