We kept that guy instead of McNabb. I won't lie, I liked McNabb but the FO went all in with Forbort after using a 1st on him and then developing him for a million years. Plus the unfortunate timing of McNabb's injury the season before the expansion draft put him on the exposed list.

How about Vilardi and other assets (a 1st next year maybe)?

Edit: Whoa! Just saw NHL rumors in another closed thread...

I like Brian Burke, and used to enjoy his Friday appearance on NHL Central at Noon, old school GM who had great stories and insight. However, respect his view as a former GM, but I still don't see the need for it, when the Rangers can do both. Lafrenière is going to be an immediate impact player, who should develop into an elite winger in the NHL. Added to Panarin, that gives them a duo that few teams have and come playoff time, the kind of 2 line threats that are hard to beat. And they have the chips to move to get a center, or they can sign RNH. And draft their own, next year.
Unless the offer is off the charts, I don't see them moving off him.

It's nice to see the Stars ragdolled Tkachuk so much that he's questionable next game.

Benn and Oleksiak made him their bitch last game. Maybe that cheap bastard will think twice now.

At least McNabb isn't a total bitch.

Still irks me.

Don't want him injured but holy shit it's literally doses of his own medicine

Getting speared

Getting hit by a player while he's already engaged with another

Those are literally right out of his playbook, karma is writing the script...well, maybe not the spear, he's saves that for people on the bench walking away

Canes will get Ashkarov at the draft

It'll be interesting to see where Askarov goes, right now I'd bet a donut on Nashville at #12. According to Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino, Carolina was originally going to draft goalie Pyotr Kochetkov with pick #28 at last year's draft but were surprised when Ryan Suzuki was still available (they had him ranked in their top 15-20 I think). They ended up getting Kochetkov at #36. Since I have a rooting interest for Kochetkov in my fantasy league, I've kept track of him after the draft. He showed well at Carolina's prospect camp but had a weird season in Russia where he bounced between their minor league and got traded. Granted, Kochetkov's not enough of a sure thing to preclude them from taking Askarov if he's available.

If I were to bet another donut, I'd guess that Minnesota (a popular landing spot for Askarov) instead ends up with one of the Penguins goalies. GMs tend to value guys they know and Bill Guerin is familiar with Murray/Jarry plus the Penguins probably have to decide which direction they're going. I always think offer sheets are unlikely, but a potential offer sheet on somebody like Tristan Jarry is plausible (that or Minnesota just trades for him outright).

Remember when we gave up a haul at the time for McNabb. And then people on the Kings board were convinced Forbort is a top 4 dman when he was dragging down Doughty.

I think DL has numerous accounts on here.

Just saw the highlights for game 1 and 2 Hawks/knights and the knights are on another level compared to Hawks. There's a lot of scrambling, bad coverages, bad goaltending and I was surprised the Hawks took the game to OT.

That trade was McNabb and 2 2nds for Deslaurier and Fasching, then we sent those two picks back for Regehr. Regehr and McNabb for Deslaurier and Fasching in the end. I'd say that went okay.

Re Forbort he had basically the same trajectory as McNabb, it was basically a coin toss. Can't have people fondly looking back--only a handful of us were defending McNabb at the time, most people couldn't wait to jettison him. Then it became the same with Forbort. They're good NHL dmen who were miscast next to Doughty and started great before showing warts.

Man, Chicago is looking like they got the #3 overall correct with Dach. At this time last year everyone was still debating who was the consensus #3 between Turcotte, Dach, and Byram. It's obviously still way early, but Dach has been one of Chicago's best players in the postseason whereas Byram and Turcotte are still cutting their teeth in lesser leagues.

People overlooked all their issues because Doughty was making them look good. That's my issue with some kings fans. They act like the player is good just because Doughty has to baby sit them.

Also, on a random note, I worry about Doughty. He doesn't look anything close to his peak nowadays. He doesn't have that drive understandably.

I hope he seriously bounces back, the lackadaisical shit, and him just being shit on the PP is beyond infuriating.

Hes playing like your average first pair dman rather than the elite dman I've been so used to seeing.

No, people most definitely didn't overlook all their issues, but yes, Doughty made them look good. neither dude had business being on the top pairing long-term and the results bore that out, but both guys had legitimate stints of great play on their own. McNabb in particular had legitimately better numbers than even Muzzin for about 1/3 of a season, then slipped in the middle third, then absolutely tanked out in the last third as he started to get exposed, then there was his injury and that's all she wrote. But that doesn't mean they're not 'good players,' McNabb has played a key role on a pretty dominant team, and Forbort and Fantenberg are playing depth roles on playoff teams as we speak (Edit: Martinez too for that matter, and Muzzin was TML's best d-man). You say the issue with Kings fans is they're acting like a player is good because Doughty has to babysit them but it's pretty clear you have issues separating their miscast role performance from how they play when they're slotted properly.

I'm worried about Doughty as well. We know the ability is there--we saw the games last season when he was engaged and he was utterly dominant. But most of the season he was playing like a selfish lazy prick running out of position for hits and making lazy plays. Hopefully a better team has him paying more attention because he's still got it, but now the game is going to be mental/psychological and him getting used to post-age-30 body fitness.

Almost no Kings defenseman since 2014 has looked very good. People really discount just how much players like Mitchell, Regehr, and Scuderi glued everyone together, including Doughty. There's a reason Doughty has looked worse as the veteran rather than the kid listening to the veterans. He's immature and probably always will be.

I made my peace with saying goodbye to Doughty a couple years ago. Frankly, I feel like he should be traded before he completely depreciates as an asset into his mid-30s. Moreover, I don't trust him for one second as any kind of leader in the locker room or on the ice. He's too emotional and reckless and stupid, to put it bluntly. I'm fine with guys like Brown and Quick sticking around for longer than they're effective on the ice, because I trust them as the adults in the room. Doughty? No thanks. And if he really continues to decline on the ice, he has almost no value to a rebuilding team.

There are going to be a lot of hyper talented young players in the Kings locker room over the next 2-3 years. They need to be insulated and developed the right way around the right vets.

Tkachuk was looking for Benn on the sandwich hit, but wasn't paying attention to where he was going, too bad.

Yeah, Doughty isn't cut from the same cloth as O'Donnell (who mentored him his first season), Scuderi, Mitchell, or Regehr.

I took a field trip in November 2012 to Michigan and saw a London@Plymouth game. Max Domi and Nikita Zadorov were on London, both were touted as top 10-15 picks. I had no idea who Bo Horvat was, but came away liking him more than Domi. Watching Horvat gradually rise through the rankings that year gave my scouting ego a bit of a boost. [/coolstorybro]

Kinda fun to look back and see that game produced 15 guys who played in the NHL (granted some were just cups of coffee): Ontario Hockey League – Official Site of the Ontario Hockey League

Horvat with a sick shorty....filthy....

Pearson potted one , 2-0 Nucks

Nice moves, but not much of an effort by the Schenn in the neutral zone. He could have easily taken the middle of the ice away from Horvat if he just would have put his head down and skated hard to the middle of the ice in his own zone. Pretty dumb play on his part.
