I never saw this before. It is a ranking of awkward Bettman moments while handing over the Cup. The line I bolded absolutely killed me!! Freaking hilarious!

15. 2012, LOS ANGELES KINGS

The Scene: Staples Center in L.A.
Captain: Dustin Brown
Crowd Response: 3/10. After a streak of four consecutive years of presenting the Cup to the visitors, Bettman finally gets to give it to a home team. And for the first time in the post-lockout era, he gets a fairly positive response. Lots of hockey fans were outraged at this, and acted as if the L.A. fans had failed some sort of test. But they’d just seen their team win their first Cup after four decades, so maybe we should cut them some slack.
The Handoff: 7/10. Bettman greets Brown by grabbing him by the arm, probably to prevent him from reacting to the contact by instinctively diving. From there, the Kings captain can’t figure out which way to hold the Cup, and Bettman is so disgusted he nearly knocks him over with it.
Bettman Awkwardness: 4/10. He seems thrown off by the positive reception, almost as if he had some good material ready to go and now he can’t use it. It’s also fun to see how annoyed he gets when the PA guy goes too long on his Conn Smythe introduction.
Overall: 4.6/10. Not bad, but without question the weakest effort of the salary-cap era.

20 Years of Awkwardness: A Celebration of Gary Bettman Stanley Cup Presentations

Game 1 is going to 2nd OT, league wants 88 minute s(per TSN) between games, so the 3pm Isles Cap, could be 5 pm or after which hopefully doesn't go OT of the Flyers game will be 930 oe 10 pm.

It’s also worth noting that Lafreniere is a significantly better prospect than Hughes or Kakko. I’d argue Byfield and Stützle are too.

Hughes is a clearly superior prospect to Stutzle and Kakko, and marginally better prospect to Byfield. Hughes posted fantastic statistics in the US developmental league. People are only cooling on Hughes because he didn't come in as a rookie and light the league on fire like Kane did back in 2008.

Comparing the remaining three gets muddy because they all played in very different leagues.

Kakko's draft year saw him post 38 points in 45 games in the Finnish elite league.

Stutzle posted 34 in 41 in the DEL. It's a pretty universal opinion that SM-Liiga is a superior league. So on statistics alone, Kakko posted better numbers in a better league, and is the superior prospect.

Comparing Byfield to either of the above is super difficult because Byfield played against other kids in the OHL. However, given a full season, he would have likely cracked 100 points in his draft year, which puts him in pretty damn elite company.

To be perfectly honest, I would rank them:

1. Lafreniere
[clear gap]
2a. Hughes
2b. Byfield
3. Kakko
4. Stutzle

I really thought that the Blues would manhandle Canucks, but they really don't look engaged. The third and fourth lines on Vancouver as well as their penalty kill dictated play pretty well.

I could not believe how much dirty play the Blues got away with last night. Was it that way on their run to the Cup? I remember the '12 & '14 Kings were tough and physical but I don't recall the Kings with that level of cheap unnecessary illegal contact away from the play.

Canes' Rod Brind’Amour fined $25G after calling NHL a 'joke' over botched call in Bruins double OT loss

Brind’Amour was hit with a hefty $25,000 fine by the NHL because of postgame comments he made following a disappointing loss against the Boston Bruins where he felt the refs made a bad call that eventually cost the Canes the game.

T
hat's the deal when a coach criticizes officiating. But what the refs said to him, that is a joke

the refs on the ice refused to explain the actual call as it was happening.
“They came to me, and I said, ‘If he has possession of it then it’s goalie interference. If he doesn’t have possession then it’s a hand pass. It’s one of the two. I don’t know what you’re calling on the ice,’” he told The News & Observer. “All he has to do is tell me. ‘We’re calling it nonpossession (by Mrazek),’ then we’re challenging a glove-hand pass. If it’s possession, then goaltender interference. I said, ‘Tell me the call on the ice.’ They wouldn’t do it when I say, ‘What is the call?’ So I had to flip a coin.”

He continued: “I said, ‘What was the call on the ice?’ and he said, ‘You’ve got to call one or the other.’ It should be so easy. If they said the goalie had it, then it’s an easy call. They wouldn’t tell you. It makes no sense. I know we weren’t the better team, but if that goal doesn’t go in, do we win that game? I don’t know.”

Matt Greene was an absolute dick in front of the net but the rest of the time the Kings were just hard on the puck. They often just walked away. Hell that's been our major complaint over the years, they'll play to the whistle and then pacify.

100% on board with Rod here. Didn't make sense at all from watching the game and then hearing it from him the press conference makes it even worse.

So I hear the Rangers are open to trading 1OA for a 2nd/1st line center...
Not really. We would need an offer of a massive overpayment to move the pick. We'd probably just use CAR 1st and other assets to get a 2C, since we have Mika as our 1C. I'd say it's a 99.9% chance we just stick at 1 and take Laf.

JD did speak to the importance of a top center in an interview and no doubt that is on their list. But that is not the same as 'trading' the number 1 because the NY media is bored and who didn't see those 'rumors' put in print. And it's been 45 years since they have had the top pick. JD knows they need a center and is looking for one. But having Lafrenière, who will be an immediate impact player, and Panarin on wing for them isn't likely to change. He's going to be a stud. Given the CAP frozen , having an elite scoring forward for 3 years is a good thing. They can get a center via other avenues. Unless somebody blows their doors off with an offer, I don't see that at all. how many teams have an extra number 1 center to offer as part of a deal?

Those rumors weren't a surprise because the Rangers needing a center isn't a surprise. The Oilers can't extend RNH, that would be a place to start. He's only 27 and needs a new start. He's a top center and with skill on wing on a new team, he'd shine. They also have a pretty good farm system and could move one of their top prospects for another teams top center prospect, depending on the pool of the other team. So that gives them RNH for 5 years, while the 18 yr old they get via draft (this yr or next) or trade has time

They would be crazy to trade the #1. I just don't see it.
