If Marner is offer sheeted, I don’t think TO takes compensation in any scenario.

If it’s a $10.5m+, then I think it’s match and trade. They need a player, most likely two, to try and replace him. They’re in win now mode, futures does nothing for them.

I'm not sure you could trade and RFA if you have matched the offer sheet. Thought i had read somewhere under that scenario the player had to remain with the organization for one year.

I'll let those with a grasp of the CBA to chime in/confirm.

Luongo gives up over $3m in cash. A) That's when you know you've done well in life, and B) you have to respect a guy actually retiring in that situation. He lives in Florida, he wouldn't have to go anywhere to fail the yearly physicals, but he just says I'm done.

sounds like the panthers preferred his $1M recapture cap hit opposed to his LTIR hit. So Luongo asked them what they prefer. Pretty classy that he wanted to let the team decide.

Can't trade a player for an entire season once you have matched the offer sheet.

Elliott is good as a backup, i have no issue with that.

The issue is when teams sign Elliott and all his 40-game clones thinking they'll be the solution then fall flat yet again and scratch their heads and wonder why.

Best of luck. One of my all time favorite players.

And of course, that hits the Canucks where it hurts: (and they deserve it, after pulling the rug on him in the Schneider trade)

31 Thoughts: Could short-term deals break RFA stalemates? - Sportsnet.ca

The Canucks’ biggest concern might be
Roberto
Luongo

" I don’t profess to know Luongo’s final decision, but outright retirement — instead of going on the long-term injury list — is a legit possibility. Should that happen, they are looking at a cap recapture penalty of approximately $3 million per year for the next three years, with Florida at just over $1 million a year

Not many players will come out publicly and say their contract sucks either. From a business POV anyway.

That's right.

Would love to see Benning make a dumb, short-sighted signing to make sure they are a playoff team this season.
Mr. Benning,
Since you already have 1/3 of the line, can I interest you in the remaining 2/3s of That 70’s line? It worked in 2014, it should work again in 2019.
Sincerely,
R Blake

Goalie musical chairs:

Anaheim: Gibson|Miller
Arizona: Kuemper|Raanta
Calgary: (UFA)|Rittich
Edmonton: Koskinen|(UFA/Starrett)
Los Angeles: Quick|Campbell
San Jose: Jones|Dell?
Vancouver: Markstrom|Demko
Vegas: Fleury|Subban

Chicago: Crawford|Delia
Colorado: Grubauer|(UFA/Francouz)
Dallas: Bishop|Khudobin
Minnesota: Dubnyk|Stalock?
Nashville: Rinne|Saros
St.Louis: Binnington|Allen
Winnipeg: Hellebuyck|Broissoit

Boston: Rask|Halak
Buffalo: Ullmark|Hutton
Detroit: Howard|Bernier
Florida: (UFA)|Reimer?
Montreal: Price|Lindgren?
Ottawa: Nilsson|Anderson
Tampa: Vasilevskiy|Domingue
Toronto: Andersen|(UFA/Sparks)

Carolina: (UFA)|(UFA)
Columbus: (UFA)|Korpisalo
New Jersey: Schneider|Blackwood

Pittsburgh: Murray|DeSmith
Washington: Holtby|Copley

UFA: Bobrovsky|Lehner|Varlamov|Mrazek|Smith|Talbot|Kinkaid|McElhinney|Neuvirth|Hutchinson|Ward

Personal predictions:
Blues trade Jake Allen to Columbus for pu pu platter. Jarmo Kekalainen drafted Allen when he was working for St. Louis in 2008.
Bobrovsky : Florida
Lehner : NYI
Varlamov : St. Louis
Mrazek : Edmonton - history with Ken Holland in Detroit
Smith : Carolina
Talbot : Calgary
Kinkaid : San Jose - hypothetical upgrade over Dell, some familiarity with DeBoer
McElhinney : Carolina
Neuvirth : Colorado
Hutchinson : Toronto

Kings eventually trade Jack Campbell if he continues to put up decent numbers. Likely to a team that doesn't have a starter under contract for 2020-21 and might view Campbell as possible #1 at a cheap salary. (looks in Detroit's general direction)

Not too much chatter regarding Kyle Connor. I’m interested to see how that plays out with the Jets understandably focusing toward Laine and trying to lock him up.

man that's a hard dump on haula

surprised no one overpaid for him after the '18 season

They should have chosen Boise. Short plane ride to Seattle and the Steelheads have been a winning franchise.

Palm Springs makes way more sense due to travel. They would have had to fly to all of their away games, and that's tough on an AHL budget. It's a perk when the Reign get to fly. They even bus it all the way to San Jose sometimes depending on the schedule. Plus they get a new arena in PS and you can fly direct PSP to SEA on Alaska airlines.

The economics make sense, but being a So Cal native and a Boise State alum, my loyalties are split. Always good to have more local teams to watch.

Wanted to be in close proximity to the Reign and Gulls. What AHL team is near Boise? I think they use the Idaho Steelheads as an ECHL affiliate, their deal with the Dallas Stars is expiring soon.
