I don't think picking the one exception proves the point.

If anything, Mike Richards had more reason to ***** than anyone, yet he was quiet.

Really? Mike Richards had more reason to bitch? You realize he was caught at the border with drugs right?

Cmon man, normally you are a bit more on the ball than this.....

The Leafs signing Marleau as a UFA was so stupid. They got nothing out of it and it cost them a 1st round pick.

There's a reason why you keep your powder dry.

Toronto bleeding top picks surely won't come back to haunt them with a roster of extremely highly paid players. I'm sure their depth will be fine in the long run...

For their sake that franchise better win in the next few years

We gain a draft pick? Why?
I mis-worded that. I'm saying I think he could end up getting traded for pick. He scored at a 20 goal pace last year. If he keeps up his production I think he could be moved with retention at some point. Of course he would have to agree to it, but it's possible.

Out of all the players who should be better off with a competent NHL coach it's Kovalchuk. TMAc isn't going to play him on the 4th line or struggle with "how to use him". As soon as the Kings signed Kovalchuk they should have fired Stevens. And they should have never hired WD40 who shockingly got another gig.

Tmac has also coached older star players before and had success, so I think he's comfortable giving a mid-30's Kovalchuk every opportunity. He won't be on the 4th line.

There's no bank breaking RFA's coming up for the Kings before Kovalchuk is gone one way or another. Unless one of the young guys scores 50 goals next year. Even then, they should gain some cap space with the UFA's after next year. If he wanted out, and nobody wanted him, what's he going to do, ruin the room? That contract is fine for the Kings, and great for Kovalchuk.

Dude was even benched numerous games if memory serves.

It’s the worst handling of a player I’ve ever seen, at any level. There’s no hyperbole there either. I’d have been embarrassed for WD40 if I didn’t dislike him so badly.

Yup, Kovalchuk became my favorite King player because of how he was handled. He was publicly embarrassed by a coach who clearly didn't like him and singled him out in some sort of wacky misdirected attempt to capture the room that was already beyond lost. Even the Captain had checked out.

Willie D looks like he runs a summer camp for kids that are about to get molested.

He was never put on LTIR fraudulently, he was bought out then signed with Washingotn, WTF would he have to ***** about?

Being executed using a clause literally no one else has dealt with before?

Look, I get it, it's damn near impossible to sideline competitive athletes, they're wired differently. I see your side very clearly. I'm simply saying it's fair to be moderately skeptical given patterns as well, and that sentiment is shared by a former pro turned hockey writer (and a good one, not some old boys schlub).
