Around the League 2018-2019 Part 2- Everyone is having fun except us

Matt Zultek, Mathieu Biron, Dave Steckel, Jens Karlsson, Brian Boyle, Colten Teubert, Derek Forbort and as we know they were probably taking Jessiman in 2003 if he were there.

Did I miss anyone?

That pretty much covers the slew of slow moving sloths with size that the team had a hard on for. How many players with size are on top scoring lists anyhow?

The Flyers also passed on some damn good players in 2013 to take Morin.

You forgot me, Herby.

Per your list, I will say that Brian Boyle has ended up carving out a pretty decent career. More importantly, the dude bitch slapped cancer, he's the man. :thumbu: :yo:

I was pretty pumped about Boyle and (embarrassed to say) Tuebert at the time they were drafted.

I fell asleep in the game but I think Brian Bruke said Brian Elliott was being traded for Talbot. I don't see anything on the rumor board so maybe I dreamt it. Makes zero sense to me for the flyers.

Well, if Gritty was in your dream it may have turned into a nightmare. Look at that thing. haha

Sucks beat Canucks tonight. ;)

Also, cast of Mighty Ducks were part of opening face-off ceremony.

Despite the team, their stupid ass mascot, and 'Is-Seabrook-Selling-That-Hayward', I grew up on the first two films. One of the scenes in the first film where Gordon Bombay skates on the frozen pond reminds me of playing hockey up in Canada, and gives me butterflies every time I watch it.

Kinda cool.

Was Goldberg there?

I went ballistic, HOmer at his best, picking a 'big guy who can hit' (his defense of why Morin) over skilled players. If it was d they wanted, they could have taken Zadarov , or Morrissey, or just taken the best player there, Wennberg and Domi were still there. Awful.
Every time I see Laughton, I keep thinking Ollie Maata and Skjei were there (rumor they might be looking at a d) Homer picks a 3rd line checking forward because he 'liked his grit'...ughh.

Morin has never been able to translate into the NHL game, when asked this past summer about him, and how he struggles, Hexy said they were 'simplifying his game". Translation, he's still only a big guy who can hit. He is a 3rd pairing d at best, and even that is a stretch. And Phillipe Myer made him expendable. Has the size and physical game, but unlike Morin, is agreat skater, who has good vision, and IQ, really sees the ice well, and has top pairing ability. Maybe Morin will play well enough to be packaged in a trade. Lesson Homer never learned, most 'projects' remain just that. Morin is about to turn 24 this year and just hasn't been able to made the grade. Skill, that odd word that Homer just couldn't grasp

A lot of those guys were picked when the league was still big and slow. Plus they're all mid to late 1st rd picks. The team Lombardi built sort of interfered their way to success with bigger/slower/less talented players.

When you look at guys like Karlsson and Steckel, who should they have taken instead of them in 2001? There's no actual talent between Karlsson and Steckel that the Kings lost out on in the 1st round. In the entire 2nd round, it's Derek Roy, Cammalleri, and Pominville. They got Cammalleri anyway, and Roy and Pominville would've been better, but other than those 3, anyone else basically would've been as good or worse than picking Steckel.

Good point. It was around the 2008 draft when the league started to switch to faster puck movers over grit . Most of the elite guys who came out of that draft all have the same thing in common, they can skate.

Take Otto Koivula+3rd and no retention.

I think NYI would demand we retain salary for a prospect who show legitimate upside still.

I’d be willing to take Steve Bernier and Brian Gionta for Kovy, and send those guys to the AHL till the end of the season.
