I remember when Ducks fans were saying that Blake was crazy for hiring WD. I guess the kings got the last laugh.

WD is a not a good HC. He really has no feel for the job. He has made a ton of mistakes with how he handles players. I don't think the Kings will be laughing but the Ducks fans are definitely stupid. I will reserve laughter once I see who they hire and who we hire because it won't be WD.

I can't help but believe that Murray assumed the coaching duties because they didn't want to pay for an interim coach.

Unless I'm mistaken, he has no coaching experience.

Was my first thought upon seeing it, "no Bob, we're not paying for another coach right now."

Let's him see firsthand who is being a f*** up, buys some time to contemplate on a coach.

Tarasenko wins the game in OT and scores a hat trick to put the Blues eight points ahead of the Kings.

It’s going to be a tough hill to climb to get to that last wild card spot.

The teams they are chasing for the last playoff spot are Vancouver and Minnesota...not St. Louis. Blues are on fire...Minnesota is fading and Vancouver is treading water. If the Kings get hot they can catch both of them. Chicago probably grabs the 8 spot though.

A GM deciding to take over the coaching duties of an under performing team half way through a season or the last quarter of a season used to be quite common back in the 60's and 70's. Murray should be able to see first hand who the passengers and leaders are on the Ducks. The only problem he faces GMs didn't have to deal with back then are long-term guaranteed contracts.

I found it telling that Murray put all the kids back in SD. That could be a sign of real trouble in the locker room. It will be interesting to see how the players come out in their next game. Right now, the Kings are a much better team.

Not that they may not have issues in the locker room, but who else would they send down as expensive veterans got healthy?

That is true except that guys like Terry and Jones were actually infusing some energy and talent before the AS break...since then the team can't score with the veterans (I suspect Perry and Kesler are still not 100% and Eaves never is). On D, they are playing Megna and Del Zotto over Larsson who was with the team most of the year. As bad as they've been, they've gotten worse since they went to an all veteran lineup. A lot of that might have been them just quitting on Carlyle but not all of it. They are playing truly bad hockey for a team that has some talent...much like the Kings at the start of the year. If Gibson is out for any length of time, watch out below!

Makes sense for Murray to get behind the bench, still will be funny to see him back there making lineup decisions with that roster mix in Anaheim.

Dallas Eakins is rumored to be a frontrunner...

And i wonder how many bodies will be moving out...

Canes/Kings= After watching the last few Canes games, I can see why there are rumors that they are looking to Quick and possibly TT.

NHL network guys were raving about Canes goaltending yesterday.

And I get that, as Mrazek and McElhinney have both played well, esp lately Mzarek. And I appreciate all they've done, putting the Canes in a playoff area, however, I don't see either as being elite enough to withstand a deep run. I think they're both pretty good, but don't see them as long term solutions.
And I guess it depends on how comfortable they are with Alex Nedeljkovic taking over and they have a kid Booth who looks to be a good future started but is a couple years out, I'd guess. A few weeks ago, before they went on the 13=5 run they are on now, Varmalov and Bob (along with QUick) were possibilities.

Now, it would seem they might not trade Ferland, so I guess it depends on how they view their team and the net, closer to the deadline.

McElhinney is kind of a mutt. A career backup. A 35-year old guy who has been playing well is like any other old guy who is feeling it for a short timeframe. Mrazek is another guy who just doesn't have the stats to backup giving the keys to the car for the playoffs. It all depends on what Carolina wants to go for this year. If they feel that they can make a deep run, they need to go get a goalie who can steal games and has a reputation for being a guy you can ride.

I am not saying that that they will go after Quick but neither of the current guys have any sort of career history that compares to Quick or another elite goaltender who may be on the market.

The NHL is littered with goalies who can be elite for 40 games then fall off a cliff, sometimes never to return. If a team like Carolina or CGY is serious about going for it now, they can't confidently with no backup plan go in with the guys they have.

Maybe, say, Rittich ends up being the answer, but nothing he's done at any level has shown me he's anything but the next Ortio/Ramo/Berra/Elliott/Chad Johnson, who were all similarly lauded as "THIS IS THE ONE."

I can’t see the Canes going after Quick prior to the deadline, but I could see them being amongst clubs that would potentially be interested in the off-season.

They do have Nedeljkovic who they like and Helvig is another one in their system. Was very good in the OHL (Kingston) and is in his first year of pro.

Goalie pipeline seems well stocked.

Question is would ownership commit to picking up a contract like JQ’s? The acquisition of Darling was not successful so they may be gun shy on acquiring another goalie with term.

Been watching a bit of hockey lately, do the Kings have the worst goal horn in hockey? It's just awful. Makes me cringe and my ears hurt when I'm at Staples.

I'll always love it because it's the horn we won two cups with. The horn before will always be my favorite though because it's the one I grew up with and I like that it has more bass. The train horn is more unique, but the old horn is very powerful.
