I think it's less that anyone here actually thought that Matthews was going to take a discount and more that the TO media and some fans smugly kept throwing it in everyone's faces that they were going to be more special than anyone else so how could any of those guys possibly be so selfish as to not take a team discount to buy into the special atmosphere? It's the "yeah but we're different" that rubs people the wrong way. As if Bowman, Lombardi were just idiots that didn't know how to negotiate with selfish players like Toews et. al. That Dubas is such a genius that the last year of the Marleau contract isn't a big deal. Hell some of them are so bedazzled that they see 11 million as a discount for Tavares because he was rumored at 13 million elsewhere. If only my real estate negotiations were that easy

Instead, Dubas got completely schooled, and they're looking like it's going to be close to 30 million in players before even winning a playoff round. That schaudenfraude is phenomenal.

Boyle setting that market for Thompson!

Where's my lecture about people making rational moves at the deadline again?

Boyle has been traded for a 3rd, a conditional 2nd, and a 2nd, between 2009 and 2019. Thompson has been traded in 2014 for a 4th and 7th in 2015, and essentially Nick Shore last year(who was later traded for a 7th). Boyle and Thompson don't seem to be in the same market, despite them playing the same position.

The term is the killer here. I think Matthews is worth that hit, but only if you’re eating up a few UFA years.

Max dollars through RFA years alone is a joke, and Toronto got schooled; you’re right.

Don’t know if Minny would want to be tied to another long term deal for an aging guy who is on the downside of his career.

They have to potentially deal with 7 more years of Parise and Suter who are both 34. They certainly are not making peanuts.

If anything, maybe they look at the rental market for a number 2 centre. I don’t think they would move Rask into a top 6 pivot role.

A guy like Brassard could make sense for them.

Holy shit Sucks get slaughtered 4-0 to The Mother f***ing Senators.

Cryotes losing again. I'm worried they and Anaheim will soon leapfrog us for better chances at 1st overall.:thumbd:

While the firing of Carlyle was necessary, I always feel it's a toxic environment when my boss's boss is taking over a role and is in direct contact with the employees.

I'm not saying the Ducks players should feel comfortable nor am I saying Carlyle shouldn't have been fired, but that's just an ugly situation.

Isn't the Ducks assistant coach former Sens coach Paul Maurice? I guess Murray feels he can't do any worse. I image the call from the Samueli's this morning was interesting.

NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins, and the Detroit Red Wings - MyNHLTradeRumors.com

Matt Porter of the Boston Globe: The asking price for Artemi Panarin is reportedly a first-round pick, a player and a prospect – a high price for a potential rental.
The Boston Bruins aren’t the only team that is interested. Other teams that have been linked to Panarin include the Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets and the New York Islanders.

I get where The BJ's are asking high, given his talent, but can't see anybody paying that price for what would be a rental. Unless they do a sign and trade.

Still hearing he and Bob will end up as Panthers.

Makes sense for Murray to get behind the bench, still will be funny to see him back there making lineup decisions with that roster mix in Anaheim.
