Going back to the tax thing they said on Spittin Chiclets that Kucherovs 9.5 in Tampa would have to be 12 mil in California, 11 in NY, and 10.9 in Ontario to have his pay be the same. That's real money. Kind of a tricky thing for the league to try and navigate through.

I’m not disagreeing with you but just read the guy above your post. (Half joking I hope) of a stempniak reunion. If Hall has to deal with pto that turn line mates for another two years 15 million won’t keep him. Sooner or later real help will have to be brought in.

Again this doesn’t mean through just ufa

Yes, we are in agreement. And somebody nit picking word choices "linemate" is being either purposely obtuse or just among the crowd of frantically in denial of reality.

The Hall situation is as follows, as I see it: Hall is a gift. He is a special guy. He right now is doing absolutely everything right - on and off the ice - to lead this team forward. His statements of gratitude and positivity towards the Devils "family" as he puts it is exactly what you want to hear... again, he is doing everything right and everything you want from a leader. And his play on the ice - what more can you say. And I have no doubt the Devils will pay essentially whatever it takes. Any idea of budgets and internal caps, if they do exist, I don't believe would apply to retaining an asset like Hall.

However, the real free agency year for Hall, in my view, is this year, 2018-2019. he is eligible to sign this July 1 and has to do it on or around that date. If he doesn't, all these positives as far as good words and gestures means nothing. Need the signature or the hysteria will begin.

This is one of the reasons I personally have felt an urgency to see the progress continue THIS season. To see pieces added THIS season to show continued progress, make sure the team is continuing the uptrend this year. If not via UFA then via significant trading. I do fear doubt creeping into Hall's mind if there is regression AND if the Devils took no action to prevent that from happening when he looks back on it come next summer when that July 1 approaches. That's what I fear. I'm not predicting that. But it's the concern.

They'll know early enough on if he's going to sign an extension. I'd be shocked if we got to camp without an extension for 2019-2020 but if we did I have zero doubts in my mind that Shero WILL NOT let him leave for nothing if he has the desire to leave.

That’s only part of what the guy is talking about

No, it just doesn't impress some people that he chose to take way less money to play in front of and live near his son. Maroon doesn't have to play hockey and him playing gives the son, that he rarely saw, a better life anyway.
Yeah, I would bet his son has a better life financially because his dad is a hockey player professionally. That's not an automatic assumption, as I'm sure a lot of pro sports children don't have the best of lives. So while his dad may be out of his life for long periods of time, I'm sure he's well taken care of. It's not fair to ask him to change his profession, when he got to keep his profession and move near his son anyway.

And it's been a few days and maybe I misunderstood or took sarcasm a little too seriously, but JrFischer seemed to imply that Maroon leaving was kind of like the same thing as Parise leaving, which is a really ridiculous comparison.

I'm over that Matteau thing and not forfeiting the pick, but what really puts the coup de grace on it was the fact that he was our most unsuccessful first round pick in the last decade. Between 2007-2015 (still too early to say for 2016 and 2018 obviously), we didn't have a bigger bust in the first round than this player. And I know he was picked second to last in the first round, but out of he and Corrente (Corrente might even be better than him, as he had health problems more than suckage problems, even though I still always thought he sucked), there's been no other worse first round pick for us between 2005-2015. Bergfors was good while he was with us, Tedenby played over 100 NHL games, Josefson played over 300? Larsson is much better than Matteau and got us Hall (I realize this was a top 4 pick), we got at least a few years of a very good goaltender out of the 2013 pick, even frickin JQ has looked MUCH better than Matteau in less NHL games. Zacha is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than Matteau. Matteau's offense might be as bad as Jacob Josefson's.

And then I remember people joking on here back in 2013 after the lockout, we left Matteau on the roster to try and justify the pick even more from the year before, and sometimes it actually did seem that way.

Hopefully JQ turns into something, as we got him at 30th overall instead of 11th or 12th or whatever from that year. Still better than Matteau though. Add everything else about Matteau into the fact that he's the son of a guy that crushed in two overtime games back in 1994 (I realize this isn't his fault) and the whole existence of Matteau is just one giant annoyance. And then the fact that we traded him for DSP and while DSP sucks, we still killed that trade because of how bad Matteau is.

Anyway, I'm sorry for the Devils rant in Around The League, I didn't even realize this was the league thread until after I started typing the first paragraph. I guess someone took this one a little too off track? Or Matteau has made some news around the league today and it brought back old memories!:sarcasm:

Well he made it seem like the happy emotions weren't warranted because he doesn't have to have the profession he has.

I consider both Tedenby and Josefson to be BIGGER busts because they were given the shot to be something and turned out to be NOTHING.

And it took many seasons of this before Devils Management figured it out which did not speak well of their mental faculties anyway.

Matteau wasn't even given a sniff(For good reason, as it turned out) so he basically might as well have not even existed or was ever on the team anyway so he doesn't really count, imo.

Zacha.....is beginning to worry me just a little.

Still hopeful he gets even better and takes a step forward this upcoming season, though.

Eh, Zacha has 51 points in 140 NHL games. Josefson only has 13 more in 175 more games. Tedenby has 30 points in 120 NHL games. Josefson and Tedenby flamed out. Matteau was a nothing from the get go. There weren't many players picked after him that have done much either though so who knows. Never EVER should've even had that pick, it should've been forfeited.

Does anyone really believe he has some sort of skin ailment or is this generally accepted as BS?
He probably does, it's probably just not THAT bad.

It's probably something that say the 35 year old Hossa that was making $6-$7 million (whatever he was making at that time) almost definitely plays through.
