Especially when you got guys like Toews getting paid $10.5 to not even hit 60 points anymore.

Parise makes $7.5 (at least on his cap hit), is almost 6 years older, signed his deal 6 years ago, was never as good as Tavares even when he first signed it and his contract will expire in the same year Tavares' deal expires if he doesn't sign with the Islanders.

Can't he still get the extra year as long as he signs before 12:00 PM tomorrow? I'm not sure how that works, as I know he technically can't sign with another team until after 12:00 PM EST tomorrow.

The only sort of Louphole I can think of is him signing a one-year deal if he goes back to Brooklyn and then just doing an eight-year extension after the trade deadline.

The only reason to do the 1+8 is to max out this year in a team that can afford it now but will cap trouble down the road. The Isles aren’t that team.
