Poor Stoll. The pace of the game has passed him by. He should hang them up and work in player development, teach the young centers how to win draws, and how to shoot high and wide.

He should but he doesn't see it that way. He is looking for a gig, he's quoted in the article below that interviewed him (before he was cut)

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com...-plans-to-retire-even-if-released-by-cbj.html

And among the players on the waiver wire today, Jakob Kindl. He's only 29 and on the last yr of a 2M deal. Not a bad pickup for some team

I'm sure he can still get a gig in Europe if NHL teams pass on him. Honestly, if he would work on not taking penalties the last two minutes of the game when the team is down by a goal, I wouldn't mind having him back on our 4th line.

McDavid name captain of the Oilers with just 45 games played and at age 19. So much for paying your dues and earning the C. At least the Oilers remain consistent when it comes to their disaster of an organization.

How do you not make the greatest player to ever play the game captain?

Big deal, the captain normally just goes to the best player on the team anyways, he is the best player. Who cares if he gets it now or next year.

Kid is an amazing talent with a good head on his shoulders, let's not be ridiculous like we were with Gaudreau and Karlsson.

I'm sure he'll be fine. He's a rare talent. He's going to lead the team, and other players will naturally follow him, just because he's so good. I'm guessing he's been looked at as a clear and obvious future NHL captain since he was 8 years old.

Not sure how this is a disaster. Landeskog was the right choice in Colorado, McDavid is the right choice here. Both are very mature players who take the C seriously.

It doesn't phase me anymore when it comes to the Oilers. They could have just given them all A's and wait for the right time to make McDavid captain. I find it hilarious that Lucic got an A already, I know he one of their vets but jeeze couldn't you wait until you're half way into the season or something.

The current Front Office and staff is not a disaster or an organization and it's a good choice. He's the best player on the team, a rare talent who has speed, skill and incredible vision. 19 or 29, he's the leader of this team and will be the one who leads them to success. The players in the room respect him, that's the most important thing.

ya...he's young but i don't disagree. he's the present and the future...too bad he's on the oilers..tank long enough to get a generational player.

Yakupov to Hawks- Bob MacKenzie tweeted earlier this afternoon (based on rumors that Yak was going to be traded to the Hawks) said the 2 teams have been talking, Hawks are and have been very interested in him ,but money is the issue (cap) for the hawks.

John Jaeckel @jaeckel

Source, "deal getting close, but NOT DONE, other teams can emerge until it goes to the league." One Hawk player involved "may surprise"

1/ May be too early for ANYONE to take a victory lap on this, but the players agreed upon, $ retention the issue, nothing official yet

Also, there are other teams still interested.

And from something I heard awhile ago, Bowman thinks all the trade rumors over the last couple years have affected Yak's play.
There might be some truth in that, maybe he needs a fresh start to reach his expectations.

Yak-Anisimov- Panarin could be a dangerous line.

Gulutzan says Tkachuk will start the season with the #Flames

I think he's gonna be a really good , top winger. He's got all the tools and knows how to use them. I guess they're giving him a look (by the 10th game right?_) He's been playing (and playing well) with Bennett and Brouwer in preseason.

Lucic getting an A is just as much of a no-brainer as McDavid getting the C.

Gulultzan says he could see him starting the year in the NHL, not that he will.

I agree he will get 10 games.

Could also have something to do with the issue of Gaudreau not being signed. They both play LW.

For such a young team that needs some sort of veteran leadership that has been lacking for years, I just feel it should've gone to someone else that knows the league better. Give him the C in a few years once he's earned it. I'm just old school when it comes to these things.

Flames just don't want to put out 8 mil a year for a RFA with zero leverage. It would set a bad precedent going forward when other GM face this similar dilemma. I don't see him as an 8 mil a year player.

TSN's top 50- NHL players list. Bob McKenzie was on TSN today talking rumors, etc. and was asked about MCDavid being #3, and said he doesn't participate in those lists, he avoids them, except for his draft list each year. Good for Bobby Mac...

Drew Doughty #5.

He said the FLames and Gaudreau aren't budging...Flames determined not to move. And he feels Yak could be gone by Wens.

2018 Olympics - IOC put a Jan 15 on NHL deciding on Olympic participation. NHL/NHLPA want in done by Nov/Dec. IOC will not be paying for travel expenses or insurance and other costs previously paid for, wants NHL to pick up the tab. If the IOC doesn't change their tune, he thinks the NHL will tell them NHL won't go. And that's not a total shock, that's been rumored for awhile. I've also heard the NHL doesn't like the location and had safety concerns.

Good for the Flames.

Roland Mckeown is playing an important game today. With injuries on the Carolina Hurricanes, he has a shot at being on the NHL roster, at least until injured players start to come back. You know, McKeown, the prospect we sent to Carolina along with a first-round pick for 16 games of Andrej Sekera. (Waves to Sekera in Edmonton.) Game is 4:30-7 on the NHL Network today.

ETA: wearing 55.

Yakupov traded to St. Louis for Zach Pochiro and a conditional 3rd round pick. Oilers have traded 2 out of their 4 1st overall picks this year
