And how could I leave off Couture?

just a few random notes about world cup. i've watched most of the exhibition and tourney games.

1. team europe: coach Ralph Krueger! he is a beast. check his wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Krueger and "Who is Ralph Krueger and why isn't he coaching in NHL?" at http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...world-cup-southampton-football-club/91240876/

my question about krueger is: why are all the coaching seats in nhl reserved for north americans only? in the whole history of nhl almost all the coaches were from us or canada. maybe 10 of non north american guys made it to the assistant coach position, and that's it. pure protectionism. give other guys a chance and you will be positively surprised.

2. lak players: overall i think they did very well. kopi was huge for team europe, beast mode in september. quick, doughty, gaborik, muzzin, they all played very well. that's one of the reasons why i'm optimistic about next season.

3. gaborik. i tell you something, he is becoming my favorite lak player. what i fancy most is his anticipation where the puck will be, his positioning, his time and space iq. he is one of the best in his generation when it comes to this, maybe just a step behind gretzky in overall standings. but that's also a tragic gift, as his body is made of glass and so far he didn't learn how to be conservative about this huge talent that he's got. gabi, get well soon!

ps. i'll have to skip some hockey now. in a few days i'm going to spain to walk the camino of santiago, starting from seville it will be a +1.000km hike. i promise i will light 3 candles when i get to santiago de compostela, one for lak team, one for lak fans, and one for gabi. have fun, see you soon, gkg!

Krueger actually had the oilers playing well during the lock out but they went with the supposed young up and coming coach. He got **** on by the oilers an deserved to be their coach

Wow, that's awesome - have a great trip! :yo:

Stars and Panthers played in London Ontario last night and neither team packed home jerseys, so both teams played in white jerseys.
And it looks very confusing when you see the photos....

That's some youth tourney stuff.

Or my beer league championship game where both teams only had shades of blue. Terrible for me being able to look a dude in the eyes and put the puck right on his stick before realizing he is my friend on the OTHER team.

Gudas does it again...caveman on skates. Can't believe Hextall not only gave him a 4 yr deal but loves him, his eyes practically glow when he talks about him. last year, between Dec and Feb, he injured 5 players....

Tonight's victim was Vesey, brutal hit, Gudas got a boarding major and game misconduct and I hope a long suspension. Vesey left injured, hopefull it's just for the bloody nose.

Multiple angles running at the same time here:

Gudas really is scum, there's no need for hits like that in this league. Unfortunately he's a decent defenseman so he'll probably stick around unless he gets himself suspended.

$20.635M of #Coyotes $72.137M (28.6%) est cap total is "dead money":
Datsyuk 7.5M
Bolland 5.5M
Pronger 4.94M
Ribeiro 1.44M
Vermette 1.25M

Central Scouting's players to watch list for draft 2017

Nolan Patrick, no surprise, tops most lists as #1

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl-releases-players-to-watch-draft-list-1.579329

Bobbie Mac's top 15 list

http://www.tsn.ca/mckenzie-s-pre-season-ranking-the-nolan-patrick-draft-1.567410

I was surprised when Bob said that the consensus among the scouts was that Patrick wouldn't have cracked the top 4 in the 2016 Draft. Namely that he wouldn't have gone before Dubois and/or Tkachuk.

Sounds like a pretty weak draft year. Reading the scouting reports and looking at his physical attributes, I could see the Kings having their sights set on Michael Rasmussen.

He has a nose for the net and likes to camp around the hard areas, which he should be doing given his size and reach.

Oh, please. That was an incredibly stupid play from Vesey. He'd looked at Gudas and turned. I mean yes, Gudas is a dirty player but I don't know how he could have stopped the hit at that moment.

Ziggy just wants to be able to break out his old "Rasmussen" jersey ;)

Re: the Gudas hit it reminded me a lot of Polak on Toffoli. Gudas doesn't really get the benefit of the doubt anymore though, but just like we said with Toffoli, bad play--TT and Vesey have a reasonable expectation that the d-men won't be trying to murder them, but they need to protect themselves a bit as well. DOesn't absolve Gudas of responsibility either.

Would be a good fit, who wouldn't like a 6'5 center with that kind of skill.

You really feel old when the kids birthdates are 1999....

Patrick O'Sullivan (twitter) said that could be a really good PP unit 6 years age.

From the GIF, it looks like Vesey put himself in a vulnerable spot.

It also looks like Gudas powered into the hit rather than glide and pin.

He had every right to not glide in. He started seeing him and 2 seconds later the hit came with him turning near the end of that 2 seconds.
That is how fast it all happened in real time.

Glad to see Carlyle back with the Ducks. 5 loses in the preseason so far and no wins. I hope this reflects their regular season

Yakupov- On TSN Radio yesterday, Dreger noted that Yak will start the year in the press box as a spare forward. He said the trade market has really shrunk, from the Trade Deadline, thru the draft, and they're not seeking a 1st or 2nd pick , at one point they couldn't even get a 3rd.

That seems hard to believe, he's got talent...
is he that much of a risk???

And the Jackets cut Stoll. I guess when you're last in the NHL in puck possession (37%) and spend way too much time in your own end, it adds up.

Not surprised Stoll or M. Richards haven't found gigs for this upcoming year, they're both done in this league. It feels like players become "washed up" sooner than they used to, unless you're someone like Joe Thornton.

The Ducks are truly doomed with Carlyle behind the bench this year, I'm not expecting much from that team.

Poor Stoll. The pace of the game has passed him by. He should hang them up and work in player development, teach the young centers how to win draws, and how to shoot high and wide.

Heh heh. Agreed. It's time for Stoll to segue into the next phase of his career. He's got the personality to find a non-playing job fairly quickly.
