The Flames' lineup looks very solid, I'm expecting a big year out of them and the Oilers. History does like to repeat itself though, but I don't think Oilers will
falter as long as McDavid stays healthy. There's a lot of fast and talented teams out West with Dallas, Edmonton, Winnipeg, San Jose, Calgary, etc...

Nikita Kucherov is en route from RUS back to USA. As I reported earlier today, the RFA winger is closing in on bridge deal with TB.

I'm curious to see how that one ends up

Stevie Y really has his work cut out for him. Even if a bridge deal, they are up against it and too many contracts next year. Bodies have to go...

Waiver claims, contracts:

The Lightning have re-signed forward Nikita Kucherov to a 3-year contract worth an average of $4.7666 million per season. - from team

Versteeg signs with Flames

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger · 3m3 minutes ago

Pending final approval. 1 yr, $950,000 for Versteeg in Calgary.

Crosby skated today, which is a good sign, sounds like low grade concussion

The oilers confirmed they offered Versteeg a contract. As a Calgarian who used to live in Edmonton I love when Edmonton gets burned.

ONE MORE NIGHT!!

So we are down to 3 RFA's left to sign and 2 are with Anaheim.
And the other has asked for a trade.
With these two teams get it done before the season starts or not?

I think Trouba will stand pat and hold out for a trade. Byfuglien and Myers are their top 2 right handed dmen that they'll rely upon, so I figure the Jets will look to add a top 4 left handed dman to round out their top 4.

If only they valued Brayden McNabb as much as Lombardi did...

I really wonder if with Trouba we'll see a sign and trade.
Letting him talk directly with another team and working out the contract and what they get back.
I know it's really never used in the NHL but it can happen just like it does in the NBA. Of course in the NBA it comes with other advantages for the player due to all the salary exceptions.

I think he would have stayed in Edmonton, but once Puljujarvi was slotted on the 3rd line , he'd have been on the 4th line. His chances of being top 6 went away. Better chance of top 6 time in Calgary, as 2nd or 3rd line.

NHL Network- TSN AND SPORTSNET both have their NHL 2016 season previews on tonight. And they'll be repeated so you should be able to find a timeslot.

what you see in the NHL is permission to talk to the player and the player's agent before trading. So the deal is not done first but right afterward.

I think the Jets should for sure deal Trouba. He is not as good as people think he is IMO and not worth the $6M he wants a year.

For sure it definitely came down to where he felt he would play more.

Aren't sign and trades exceedingly rare now?

I'm a little confused as to why some of the guys picked the Ducks to come out of the West. They've shown nothing to me that says they're any better than last years team. Also, nice job by TSN to show the Hawks skating around with the cup at the end of the show, as if they were this years champs.

Pretty good crop of rookies this year, lots of good young colts breaking into the league.

Looking forward to seeing them in action.

Always exciting. Former Kings prospects who have made the opening night roster: Hudson Fasching (Sabres), Roland McKeown (Hurricanes), Colin Miller (Bruins) and J.F. Berube (Islanders with 3 goals still). I expect McKeown will be sent down soon to begin his first AHL season. I guess we should be proud we have good drafting, eh? Hoping Colin Miller will stick this season. Fasching went straight from college to the NHL.

Probably because "When was the last time the Ducks truly sucked in a season?"

I don't think they got any better and not having Lindholm or Rakell to start is obviously not ideal for them, but they are still a good team. Like the Kings, I don't consider them a favorite, but they're still consistently a good regular season team. That being said I think Carlyle was a horrible choice for coach Getzlaf/Perry/Kesler have shown that they can't get it done when it matters the most.

Nikita Kucherov contract is amazing, Yzerman is truly great GM.

After that 3 year x $4,766,666 Kucherov is still RFA after this contract i can't imagine how Yzerman pulled that deal!?!

2014-15 Tampa Bay Lightning NHL 82 28+ 36= 64 Play-off's 26 10+ 12= 22
2015-16 Tampa Bay Lightning NHL 77 30+ 36= 66 Play-off's 17 11+ 8= 19

Whoever picked the Ducks obviously hasn't seen who the head coach is...

VIDEO: Jack Eichel goes down at #Sabres practice, has to be helped off the ice. Looks like left ankle.

ugh...rolling around on the ice in pain. Tough break for the Sabres. Hope it's not broken.

Ducks will be a disaster with Carlyle and without Lindholm/Rakell.

And how sweet it will be, Omni! The Ducks peaked and didn't capitalize. Perry and Getzlaf are due for a decline. They carried both lines and tasted zero success, that weighs heavily on their psyche (read: Thornton... tho, Thornton has nada rings).

Love me some Eichel... That's horrible if it's an ankle/Achilles. That's a potential three-four month injury, even if "only" severe sprain (ETA, especially if it's a high sprain). If it's an achilles, it could obviously be a four, or more, month'er
