The worst thing to happen to Russia was the second period ending. Once the third started they just couldn't get the momentum back, especially on the early pp. Good game by Canada, fun game to watch.

Max Domi pisses me off. He's going to fit in well with the rest of the Coyotes.

Carlyle just got fired

Carlyle got a lot of flack last year when the Leafs took that nose dive in March, losing 12 games and putting them out of the playoffs. And I felt that put a target on his back, and surprised me when they resigned him.

I don't think it's his fault, altogether, he's tried to impress they play better in their own end, even making changes to the system (and Kessel balked and wouldn't adjust, he's basically a very talented 'I" player who doesn't see beyond his own needs and has been a problem for every coach he's played for) Partially that they don't have enough (if any) 2 way players and the rest just won't adapt, won't listen to what he's preaching.

It's easier to sacrifice the coach then 23 players. But Nonis and SHanahan won't end it there. The Leafs have no leadership, that's been visible for some time. The players are too selfish, won't commit to playing team defense and it's a bad mix.

They need to make some big trades and get some better 2 way players who are team playesr with leadership
And Babcock is a guy they will target, since it's not money (Detroit offered him a boatload and he hasn't agreed) he wants more empowerment in player and personnel decisions which Holland won't give up.
He'd be a good fit there, the right kiind of coach and a part of him would love to be the GM that finally got a CUp back up there.

I think they will trade some big names over the summer and restructure
Carlyle is a good coach and will land on his feet.

Agreed. He was playing with a weak roster. They over achieved two years ago, and were forced to paying Kessel and Dion.
I still like dion as a #2 guy who is not in a leadership role. If the cap went crazy high having a top pair of Dion and Drew would be nice. Not sure what I would give up for him though,

And that is a large part of their problem. He shouldn't be wearing the C, it's not a good fit for him.
I wonder if the Wings will try to land him, they're on the hunt. Although he's carrying a big pricetag, that some teams who would be interested couldn't afford.

Maple Leafs are a joke.

But the Least is a bigger joke, so watch them make the playoffs.

I think Colorado for ROR could make sense as well.

To be honest I think on the open market he would get $7M.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kessel was traded. The guy could be so much more with some effort but he doesn't care enough and I can't see Shanahan putting up with it.

I imagine that the leafs would either be looking for a top deman to replace Dion or a top centre if they were moving Kessel. Not sure who would be looking for him.

This

And I do think he'll get moved. He's creating problems in the room and they won't get anywhere when your star player is 'that' kind of guy.

Phaneuf is just as bad. He is literally an overpaid Matt Greene that is a little bit better offensively and even worse defensively that is the captain instead of an alternate. The whole team seems to have issues too.

Remember that time when Richardson and Kopitar had a 2 on 0, and Richardson looked him off and just went solo and scored. What a MAN

Must be kind of a relief for Carlyle. The man tore his hair out trying to get this team to buy in to defense. ;) In several press conferences he looked to be on the verge of banging his head against a wall.

and as the just gave him an extension he will be paid anyway.
Good deal for him.

TO should hire Eakins to replace him. It would be the most awesomest form of entertainment yet.

Even though he claims to be "hands off" I am willing to bet that Lie-weekly had something to do with this

We'll know if for sure if The Leafs hire T Murray
