While I think the Oilers should rebuild the rebuild, I'm not sure draft picks are the return they should be looking for unless they then use those for trade bait. Their scouting department is 100% pure garbage
I like it assuming we use the First as a trade bait.
I think Draft picks are a more fluid asset than players, its hard to make a hockey deal because you need a team that has an abundance of what you want and they need to have a fit for you player AND their contract; Say you have a Lamborghini, but want a house, it would be rather tough to find someone interested in trading their house for you Lambo. They need to want a Lambo, and have multiple houses they dont want. It would be much easier for you to trade your Lambo for its net worth in Cash (a liquid asset), and then you can easily trade that cash for a house on a bigger market of available houses (the home owner doesn't have to be looking for a lambo) with a smaller amount of hassle having to be made over the fine details of the trade.
No one would trade a center for Perron, especially not a center we would want at this time of the year, but someone might trade a Center for a 1st round pick.
But knowing this management team we'll probably just draft an overager, play him in the NHL next year, and have him bust out for nothing.
