Steve Yzerman is stepping aside as GM of the Lightning but staying in an advisory role.

The Acolytes will spin whatever outcome to make sure he is made of gold.

If the Lightning suck, it's because he isn't running the ship. If the Lightning are great, it's because of his wisdom.

The Lightning never won a Cup because Stevie Y stepped down, imagine what they could have been with him at the helm!

New GM is inheriting the hard part--managing the expectations of being a favorite and balancing that with the wise development or movement of assets.

"You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

How the heck did Batman: The Dark Knight predict the paths of both Yzerman's and Dean Lombardi's careers???

No lie, I was thinking exactly this

Yzerman left early so it's only a matter of time before we see "would stevie y have been the best gm of all time?" thread

He wants to go back to Detroit, where he lives. By the below, I'd say Holland will be VP next year and Stevie Y the new GM/

Kind of surprising really. Know Stevie Y's heart is in Detroit, but still.
If he does to a Detroit as GM, he won’t have the no state income tax advantage that he does in TB. Also, if he’s able to turn the Red Wings into a Cup contending team, he would shut down all his doubters (including me!).

I think the Pacioretty deal is decent for both teams. I was very much opposed to acquiring Pacioretty here in LA, but Vegas is in a different situation. They have ample cap space and still a plethora of picks moving forward.

Montreal on the other hand gets a decent return for a guy who was a pending UFA.

Pacioretty should be reinvigorated playing in a new market. How this deal will be judged depends greatly on how Suzuki pans out.

A bit surprised Vegas didn't make more of an effort to re-sign Neal.

I'd still be a little bit skeptical because he jumped ship before any of the problems really started in TB and gets to inherit a similar situation in Detroit as when he started in TB. Smooth seas don't make good sailors.

If there was a thread about the Coyotes GM as one of the best, just what will his look like? As of now, he's a very good one, nothing more. Until he wins a cup or two with a team he built, he's just the next David Poile as far as I'm concerned.

Hell, I'd sign Nick Shore. I always thought he'd had a bit more in him than we saw. He's probably better than Thompson anyway

Nick Shore?

Dreger saying today that a deal for Karlsson could happen in the next 24-48 hours. So I wonder if Stevie Y's sudden departure is tied to that? maybe the owner (and new GM Julien BriseBois’ ) have a different view on who could be traded away.

Run, statistics!

Here's where stats and the eye test really dont match. Nick Shore is Mr. Tan Crayon. Maybe it's because the Kings snapped all of his offense he had in him during college I don't know.

Is there a player that is more vanilla than Nick Shore? Does anyone fondly remember Bob Corkum or Steve Kelly?
Ziggy don't disrespect vanilla like that. Everyone likes vanilla. It's a respected flavor, #1 around the world. Shore is like some hipster flavor like fennel chocolate chip, (I'm looking at you long beach creamery) where were supposed to take these advanced stats or these goofy flavors like they're a god send. No if I want chocolate chip I sure as shit don't want fennel in it and if I want a 4th line center I sure as shit don't want Nick Shore.
