Bad contract for Neal. I don't think we are going to see the kind of production the contract warrants past 2 or 3 more seasons at best.

It's just the price of doing business. Until they lower the max years, you're not signing the still productive 31 year old Neal, without also signing the possibly unproductive 34 year old Neal. This is why the PA has always wanted free agency. The owners will pay stupid money, and there are now more teams that can do so, thanks to the cap and cap floor. Now they're forced to spend a certain amount. Back in 2000, Neal is a Ranger, not s Flame, but it's the same general idea.

Everyone is competitive, and desperate for talent. That's good news for the players.

Thornton doesn't care about winning.

Sure he does. :sarcasm:

If the report of 5 years @ 5 million AAV the knights offered neal is accurate, then that's not that far off the Calgary offer. no state taxes, lower federal taxes, and low cost of living.

I wonder if something else was in play.

Vegas offered that earlier this season. Perhaps they pulled it off the table after the season and let him walk.

Thompson is a scrub.

Roll four lines like Vegas.

Brodz/Clifford Amadio Lewis
I'm definitely down to run 4 run lines. That's what I want. (Stevens will never do it though).

This is why I've been pounding the drum for a center instead of a winger. Another good center makes it easier to roll the lines.

That said, Thompson is a fine 4th line center IMO. You need your bottom 2 centers to be able to win FO's and kill penalties. Thompson can do that. Kempe/Amadio can't.

I thought ROR would have made some sense.

I’m sorry fam but I’m really pulling for my hometown Knights to land EK. I know that hurts the Kings, but Doughty vs Karlsson all year long will be so epic.

I’d love to see it happen but I doubt it would.

"The best revenge is massive success."

They already took Tavares, who really cares? It's over. Seems like a move we'd see proposed in the trade section. I'd love to be a GM and get some cocky offer and walk. Keep it, give me the picks.

Haven't. Possibly could, they just have to work on it first.

Can someone clarify if Kovalchuk's contract has a full NMC? I am worried about protection for the Seattle draft.

Comparing Kovalchuk's deal with James Neal and JVR and obviously the term on Kovalchuk is better but the age is worse. Not sure which one of the 3 I would prefer.

I believe his last season on the contract has a NMC.

Would be interesting to see what a deal with VGK would look like, having signed Stastny and needing to sign W. Karlsson, Colin Miller and Shea Theodore, I don't think they can afford take on Bobby Ryan unless they trade from the roster.

I was at legoland with the wife and kid this weekend. Saw lots of people sporting NHL apparel and chatted with several of them. The half a dozen Golden Knight fans I spoke with knew absolutely nothing about hockey. Every fan of other teams I spoke with knew what was up. Had some good conversations waiting in line. Golden Knight fans are the new Mighty Duck fan circa 1990's.

Absolutely they can, if it means getting Karlsson, bye C. Miller.....

I think Theadore would be going back the other way

The expansion draft will occur in the summer of 2020, and the season Kovy’s NMC kicks in Ian 2020-2021.

I really, really hope that the NMC doesn’t kick in until July 1st (therefore after the draft that summer).

I can't wait for them to get a taste of failure
