David Perron has had a single 50+ point season in the last 6 seasons and it was with Vegas. It was a perfect storm - elite team, contract year, stayed relatively healthy, etc. I wouldn't have signed him, period.

Neal is good for 20-25 goals at this point. $5.75 over 5 years is way too much, I wouldn't do 5 years. Neal turned down 5x5 from the Knights so he was trying to wring out as much as he could. Tatar was definitely their insurance policy. Gallant will give him every chance to succeed next season, let's see if he finally wakes from his coma.

Vegas did the right thing, let them both walk. No need to have 2 30 year olds taking up 11+ million.

I actually like the Stasny signing a lot. Short deal, palatable AAV, etc. Nice stop gap for the next couple years while the pipeline continues to develop.

I'm a big fan of Paul Stastny, but at the end of the day he's your average 2nd line center. 16 goals last year and 18 the year before. Nick Holden is just a #4/5D which is an upgrade over Sbisa.

Losing two consistent 20+ goal 50 point players in Neal and Perron is gonna hurt. Like you said; there's no way Karlsson has nearly as good of a year as he did.

I don't think it will hurt. In addition to the points (not just goals ) Stastny will add, Knights are the favored landing spot for Eric Karlsson, who averages about 70 pts a year over the last 5 yrs. And they have youth that might impress in training camp.

Still have a very good coach, elite goalie and effective system.

They'll be fine.

James Neal is going to Calgary for 5 years.

That's a nice pickup for them at a very good price, given the goals he has consistently produced. Adding him, Derek Ryan and Lindholm will bolster their offense, along with a new coach, they'll be a much better team. I like Peters and I think he'll get more out of that group.

Torts being Torts...overreacted to comments Rutherford made about Johnson and comments Johnson made about (of the pens) playing with winning culture .

F bombs dropped...

Tortorella explodes on Penguins' Rutherford, Johnson: 'Shut the f--- up!'

"All I know is, this organization, from the lawyers, the front office, (president of hockey operations John Davidson), the managers, the coaches, players ... has done nothing but try to help Jack. And for him to backhand slap us like this is utter bullshit, and he should know better. No one wishes anything bad to happen to him and his family. We wish him the best. But for him to put it the way he put it today is bullshit. And to have a general manager question our decision-making from three hours away, he must be a f***ing magician. I don't want to go to name-calling, because I know Jimmy. He's a good man. They're both good people. But what the f*** are they doing? Get on with your business! I hope (Johnson) plays his ass off for them, but stay the f*** out of our business when you don't know what’s going on.”

Tortorella is the man, love this response! This is the type of guy you want working for you, pure energy and loyalty.

I hope you are joking. Torts is a complete moron and should check himself into anger management classes. Pens GM didn't say anything controversial nor did Johnson. Commenting on usage of a player and a winning culture regarding a team that just won back to back cups is not dumping on the Blue Jackets. Torts is a psycho.

Agree with this 100%. Perron is nothing special, and Neal probably doesn't have much left in the tank. Vegas offered Neal 5 years. It's a joke that he and his agent think he can get more than Vegas offered.

This type of commentary is common in any high stakes business, Tortorella just has the balls to say it in public. Don't think other execs in the Blue Jackets didn't think "Oh yeah, f*** you Pittsburgh" when they read those comments, especially the ones from Rutherford.

One of my least favorite players ever...
Rinaldo signs a 1 yr deal with Nashville, 650K

If his skating was better he probably could have received a better contract.

Johnson insinuated that Columbus does not have a winning culture....as a coach, damn straight that's an insult...say Johnson didn't say anything controversial is just personal dislike for Tortorella

Well that's a fact. Columbus has not won a cup, while the Pens just won two cups in a row. Players who get traded to cup contenders typically make comments like that, which is not intended to be a shot at their prior team. I think Torts overreacted and is a moron.

Rutherford and Johnson made normal comments. If there was an implicit shot at Columbus in their comments (which I don't think there was), it did not warrant a mentally ill comments by Torts. The guy is off his rocker.

I didn't read it that way, when I read it, I took it to mean the Pens winning 2 in a row. Guess it depended on how you read it.

Torts is coming from a place where Columbus is the little brother to Pittsburgh(beaten by them, haven't won as much as them, etc). Plus he still has it out for the Penguins/Crosby/Malkin from back in his Ranger days.

It's the perfect storm, and then boom.

This is what he said, part of it, " I've been really wanting to be part of a winning culture and a place where the expectations to win are as high as they could be."

The implication is that CBS A. isn't part of a winning culture, and B. expectations aren't to win as high as they could be or should be,

If you think a highly competitive person like Tortorella, or any other coach in the NHL isn't going to take offense to that, you're nuts.

Again, his statement is fact. Pens won two cups in a row, and its a huge disappointment of a season if they don't win the cup. If Columbus won two rounds, that would be a big deal for them. The "expectations to win are as high as they could be" in Pittsburgh. I still think what he said is a fair comment that shouldn't be taken the way Torts took it.

Anyways, agree to disagree on this one.
