Sharks were offering $13 per. Insanity.

Tavares saw the writing on the wall in SJ, though, surely as he would have seen it if LA tried to sign him. Very small contender window, aging core, etc.

They offered 13 Million and got turned down.. To me that points to that he really had 2 teams on his list.

The teams in the mix sans the Stars are cup contenders

Like I stated earlier, it's a catastrophe. There is absolutely no way it should have come to this, he should have been traded last off-season if he was not willing to sign. Like we were all saying with Doughty, gauge his interest and trade him if he wasn't going to sign. The Islanders handled this about as poorly as possible

And how, horrid even for Snow who is as inept as they come. When JT wasn't signed by training camp, set a deadline, 31 Dec, or by the trade deadline. But you don't let an asset as valuable as he is walk for nothing.

WIlson has a plan B. And I'm guessing Skinner or Panarin (or maybe Karlsson) are part of it.

Probably true, I just don't see any 'plan B' that's nearly as impactful. I don't think anyone in the NHL thinks "oh, the Sharks are a scoring winger (of all things) away from being truly scary." Tavares would have given them certain center depth. Now they have Couture and Tierney and several others who rotate in like Pavelski and Hertl...it's nice to have the moving parts for flexibility, but who is going to lock it down? And not one of those guys is remotely like Tavares. Couture is a Carter-level guy, Pavelski is great but he's slowing down.

But yeah if they got Panarin he's the type of impact player who says "I don't care who my center is" like Kane so that would be a good one.

I know this has been brought up several times before, but Pavelski will be 35 when his next contract starts. This is gonna be a difficult contract negotiation. There’s no way they can do 7 or 8 years, can they?

Even six years gets him to 40 years old - with a 35+ contract. Ouch.

It's like the Islanders sold their soul for all those championships in the 80's. They've been cursed ever since.
