Who says you can never go home?
Wayne Simmonds just smiled at the prospect of getting 8 mil next season.[/QUOTE]
It won't be with the Flyers. If some GM is jackass enough to give him 8M he deserves that misery. He'll be 31 when the new deal starts and he's a power forward, not a skilled forward. His body is breaking down, not uncommon for that type of player. He has to be 15 feet from the net to be effective. He used to be a key on the PP, but was replaced by Nolan Patrick this year. Without that, his effect is even less. He is not a good skater, not fast, average defensively, and not great in board battles. I can't tell you how many times this year he made the line offsides because he couldn't keep up with Konecky. His best talent is skirmishes after the whistle. he's great at that , getting into a players face, chirping to , in and from the bench or penalty box. And teams feed off that. But it's not worth the money he's looking for (last report, a few weeks ago was that he wants 8 years and 6 to 7 M per)
Hexy has been shopping him, if he wasn't go greedy about holding on to his prospects, the deal to the Flames for Hamilton would have gone thru. Still hoping the talks with the Wild for Dumba will come to fruition.
He's part of a group, including Giroux and Voracek that have done nothing in the last 6 years when the money was on the line, to get into the playoffs and esp once here. No impact shifts...
That's where a player earns it, that it factor that makes him a difference maker, game changer in the thick of the playoff battles. And he has not done that.
