Speaking of Zykov, I watched him play in Ontario his rookie season before he was traded that year at the trade deadline. I also met him once. Good size frame. Limited english. His play on the ice was a bit less than I expected as there was a bit of hype surrounding him. He was kind of a one on one player, but he was a rookie trying to fit into the pro game, so it's not unusual to have that learning curve. What many don't know was that he was struggling most of the season likely due to a serious elbow injury on his right arm (shooting side). Swollen up quite a bit of the season like a grapefruit I understand, so in my book we gave up on him way too early for little in return, part of the DS/DL like veteran players routine. Now just in his third pro season, he lead the AHL in goals (unusual actually for a young player, often it's a career AHLer that's a veteran). I suspect he'll crack the Canes line up this year and be an NHLer, and in his limited games, has already shown he can score. He's in that forward age group where our talent is lacking. Appears to be a pretty decent contender to be a prototypical power forward. Time will tell, but my money is on this trade was a mistake. Not saying he'll be a star, but maybe a solid NHL player.

I mean, even now I think we can call it that, because Versteeg contributed very little before leaving for nothing. Like Herby said, options are always good.

I think he'll be a player, I just think he'd be mostly redundant here. And I'm just being a petulant baby about it because the wistfulness happens with damn near every outgoing prospect.

I think if you want to criticize anything, is that DL wasted a high 2nd [37th] on him only to trade him for Versteeg. Remember the good players he use to find in the second and 3rd rounds? Only Justin Auger remains from the 2013 draft.

edit: Looking back on that draft, not a lot of guys have come out of it aside from a few in the 1st round.

We don't even have Auger anymore either.

Everyone ready for the HFBOARDS crash over the JT decision.Teams will report their out and eliminated from the JT sweepstakes soon.Hoping JT goes back to NYI.

Per TSN's Frank Seravalli

Trade - Jets sent Steve Mason and JOel Amria , 4th and 7ths pick to Habs for D Simon Borque
Hab put Mason on waivers for buyout

Mason now joins crowded goalie market with Lehner, Khudobin, Mrazek, Lehtonen, Halak, Pavelec, Hutchinson, Brossoit and then Craig Anderson on Trade Bait

JVR- the dozen or more teams interested has increased over the last 24 hours.

Dererk Ryan- Leafs among teams interested on a growing list. Said to be sitting on multi year offers from Flames and a Central Div team Wings and BJ's also interested

and TYler Ennis is on waivers

On the Tavares drama:
(offer came from one of the teams on the list)

Building off Dave’s intel, apparently an offer this morning came in that changed the landscape. Multiple teams have responded, you can make the argument that we now have a bidder war for Tavares.

"Changed the landscape". How dramatic. I'm sure he was already getting offers north of 11.

Someone is going to give him $14 million.

Gimme dat 520 error message.

I think a team can win with that. They just need to make sure there are no bad contracts on the roster. Margin for error is less.

The kings won with Penner and a shell of himself Richards.

Following the Tavares saga I hate hearing from the media about what a great fit the Sharks are. All their top players are in decline. The Islanders are in a much better position moving forward IMO.

I believe if JT doesn't sign with NYI before midnight, he voids the possibility of getting an 8 year contract. The fact he hasn't signed yet is an indication he won't be returning to the Islanders.

I don't care where he goes honestly, as long as it's not with SJ.
