I think a team can win with that. They just need to make sure there are no bad contracts on the roster. Margin for error is less.

The kings won with Penner and a shell of himself Richards.

Richards in 2012 was a major contributor at approx $5 mill.

Carter on $5 mill in 2018/2019 is such a ridiculous steal of a contract.

2014 Richards.

Hell, 2014 Richards still had some great moments in the playoffs. Got the primary assist on Gabby's game tying goal in Game 1 vs the Ducks in the dying moments of regulation. Back-breaking goal in Game 3 vs the Rangers. Obviously not worth the contract, but I'll always remember those contributions. We needed all of them.

As a fourth line C in the playoffs, he produced better numbers than some 4th liners register in an entire season.

Following the Tavares saga I hate hearing from the media about what a great fit the Sharks are. All their top players are in decline. The Islanders are in a much better position moving forward IMO.

I believe if JT doesn't sign with NYI before midnight, he voids the possibility of getting an 8 year contract. The fact he hasn't signed yet is an indication he won't be returning to the Islanders.

I don't care where he goes honestly, as long as it's not with SJ.

Yeah, they could have close to 26 plus mil tied up just with Kane ,Taveres, and Couture with an aging group. Then they still have to sign Pavelski, Hertyl which will probably another 10-12 mil. I hope he goes to the Leaf s for 14 mil.

Don't know if this means all of these teams have a shot on some level, or that they just "make sense".

The only way they do that is trade a major piece [or 2 ]off the current roster and hope he doesn't want more than 8 mil the following year. Can the Kings or any team start talks on an extension after the trade?

You do that for Panarin

Short of trading 3 of Pearson, Toffoli, Muzzin and Martinez, a couple of them to CBJ in the initial deal and another to clear space next summer and likely buying out Phanuef, I don't see how they can afford Panarin at $8M+

I'll always be grateful, his "contributions" in Games 5, 6 and 7 of the Chicago series enabled the series to get to Game 7 OT and the greatest Kings moment I've ever seen in person.

Panarin isn't happening. Signing him would require 2 of the mid level contracts out in addition to the one that would need to go to resign iafallo, kempe, and Brickley.

‘Get to game 7?’ Kings had a 3-1 lead on the Hawks....are you saying Richards helped the Hawks get to game 7?

si wey

Kings were in the drivers seat until Sutter kept sending 13-10-22 out there to get eaten alive by the Hawks, in particular Kane and Saad.

Pinning games five and six on Richards reeks of an agenda, Herb. Playoff games are not won and lost on the back of your fourth line alone. That’s ridiculous.

You're quite hard on him about that. Consistently. Even now. He had a couple bad moments, but I include the head coach in the blame game, plus the rest of the hockey club. I also partially blame the Blackhawks for being good.
