Not that it matters. Columbus got a 22 year old right handed top defenseman with a $5.4m cap hit until 2022. Kopitar isn't competing with that offer.

Not now he won't. Two years ago might be a different story.

Why? Kopitar already took up more cap space at the time than Jones currently does. Two years ago Kopitar was a year away from being in his late 20's and needing a big contract. Between Kopitar or Jones, who would you have traded for? I'm going to guess it's not Kopitar. Not with the importance of the cap and staying younger.

I would have made the deal for Jones. That being what I would do doesn't mean there isn't a desperate GM out there who would make a deal to get Kopitar two years ago.

As you are fond to saying GMs have to hold onto guys like Kopitar (nope), so why wouldn't a GM go after Kopitar in the summer of 2015?

Be interesting to see how the Hawks' front office handles this playoff exit. They don't have the same excuses we do.

Kings defense and goaltending is superior. If they add a few offensive pieces this offseason, Kopitar steps up, and Toffoli/Pearson take another step, I'll feel real good.

I'd rather the Kings miss the playoffs than get smoked like Chicago anyways.

We can debate theory all day, but we won't know if there's a right or wrong. In theory, sure, a desperate GM might do that, but you'll have to name the desperate guy in June 2015 though. I guess one of them would've been Lombardi. Maybe Montreal would've been desperate at the time. Are they giving the Kings Galchenyuk? Probably not? He was already a 20 goal/46 point guy, so he's who they're trying to add to, and he's too much for a soon to be UFA. Their 1st round pick that year was 26th overall. They didn't have Sergachev yet.

I mentioned Galchenyuk at the time as well. There was a deal to be had, Dean either never looked for one, or was prohibited to look for one.

I remember when the Kopitar negotiations started, Dean said they weren't even in the same ballpark. Then Kopitar suddenly gets exactly what he asked for with no give and take whatsoever. Something fishy there.

Yes, we can debate theory all day. Thus far it appears my 2015 theory is right on the money.

Oilers deserve to win this, the Sharks played not to lose in the 3rd and have been a step behind in overtime

Sharks can't flip the switch after shutting it down in the 3rd, they are being dominated in OT
