I'm not impressed with the Ducks....yet. In the past 5 years that they've won the division, here is their impressive resume of playoff round wins:

Dallas
Winnipeg
Calgary (x2)

Wake me when they beat a significant opponent.

Aside from Anderson, Turris, and Intense Ryan, I can't name another player off the Sens other than Karlsson. That team is a bunch of nobodies without him. The slobbering on this site is a bit grating, but the guy is a special talent, even if he leaves a bit to be desired in his own end.

Oh and throw in Hoffman because he reminds me of Tool's best song...

Stone is pretty good too. I like his game.

The Kings got pretty fortunate with Eastern opponents IMO. I think we were significantly better than both NJ and NYR.

The Kings did struggle a bit vs highly skilled teams, would have been interesting had we played a Caps or Pens type team.

Kings in 2012 were unstoppable. I could have cared a less who they played, there was no stopping them.

After the Kings beat Chicago in 2014, I felt the same way. The Rangers didn't worry me one bit and I expected the Kings to dispatch them easily. I didn't feel it was close. Should have been a 5 game series if the Rags weren't bailed out by a pile of snow in the waning seconds of that game. The Kings were buzzing at the end of that game and if they got that goal, they would have won it in OT. Carter and Pearson were flying. The Rags were hanging on by a thread. But it's all good, they got to hoist it in LA again.

A SCF against the Bruins would've been so much more interesting.

That Winnipeg series was a lot closer than the result indicates. Was a very physical and entertaining series.

Buffalo Sabres‏Verified account @BuffaloSabres 1h1 hour ago

General Manager Tim Murray and Head Coach Dan Bylsma have been relieved of their duties.

Wow, add up the clues. This somes on the heels of Eichel not being happy (with how he was used) and rumor about him not signing there. Sabres, Eichel and agent denied it today (not that they had a choice) but you have to think that this came from his exit interview.

Team with good talent, good young talent and strong farm system.
Team on the rise

Wonder if Lombardi gets called for an interview

Earlier in one of these threads I mentioned Buffalo would be a perfect fit for Dean.

Their farm system isn't as strong as it once was and that defense is atrocious, it needs some serious work minus Rasmus Ristolainen.

Bogosian is an anchor and Kulikov simply did not work out, that was a bad trade with Florida.

Not sold on Lehner.

I like some of the pieces up front and I hope Okposo is able to return at 100% next year coming off his health scare at the end of the season.

Tim Murray is one of the most overrated General Managers in the game. Period.

Considered to be one of the top minds in the game, but hasn't won anything, including McDavid. The Sabres finished Eighth IN THEIR DIVISION after many said they would be a playoff team. I don't care if Eichel missed a quarter of the season, they aren't good at all. Factor in that you reportedly now have a 20 year old calling the shots, and the Sabres aren't winning ****. Just like the Bills, they're an irrelevant team with a lousy owner.

As for Dan Byslma, he's a coach. That's all I can say about him.

Murray has this boss appeal to many, for what? Basically selling off half his roster at the deadline in an effort to get McDavid and then flopping? I've never understood the infatuation with this guy and to a lesser extent the Sabres. It's all an illusion like draft picks, especially on this site.

If he gets the job, would he trade for D. Brown?

I doubt it, but wouldn't shock me to see him go after a guy like Mike Fisher or Brian Boyle much in the same way he signed Handzus his first year. Either one of those two guys would add stability and help start the culture change.

Oh, and Justin Williams is UFA this summer as well. A guy like Alzner is exactly the kind of defenseman I would expect Dean to pick up as well. Kind of in the Scuderi mold.

A GM in Buffalo can afford to overpay for a couple of years for these guys. They are going to teach the kids how to prepare for every game.

I think Eichel is a player you can build a team with, but probably needs a major contributor with him on the roster in the 2C slot.

He's a pee pee slapper.

Jack Eichel and his agent denied it pretty strenuously earlier this week.

Eichel: "First, when you see that people are writing these things and saying that you said these things, my first thought is where are they getting this information? If it’s not coming out of my mouth and I didn’t verbally say it to you or anybody, then where are you getting this information? Second of all, why are you writing it and trying to back yourself up on it?

<snip>

Just hearing these things that people are writing after I have a meeting with Tim and a meeting with Dan, I thought both of them went well. None of anything that I’ve read so far has been accurate of what was said in those meetings with them. It’s a bit frustrating and a bit disheartening because I thought things were heading in the right direction leaving Buffalo. As much as we didn’t have a great year, you’ve got to just look forward to the future. Speaking to Tim and speaking to the Pegulas, just expecting big things for next year. It’s just frustrating to still be dealing with this more than anything."

<snip>

"I want to be here for a long time. That’s the way I look at it. I don’t want to go anywhere else. I don’t want anybody to think that I want to be somewhere else. I want to be here, and I want to help this team win in any way that I can do that. I just want all the people there to know that.

"I definitely am not the type of guy to point the finger and blame other people. I said in my exit interview and I’ll say it again, it’s self-reflection. You’ve got to look yourself in the mirror before you can call out other guys. I said it all year, if you want to be a leader and be vocal, you’ve got to play well yourself. For me, I don’t think I was good enough this year, so I need to be better. The onus is on me."

Who would they have faced if they didn't win...I mean weren't gifted the division?

San Jose. One of the CA rivals would have been guaranteed to go home.

Also would of got the Battle of Alberta in the other match-up.

This scenario would have been infinitely more entertaining than ANA/CGY and SJ/EDM.

Jack Eichel and his agent denied it pretty strenuously earlier this week.

Yes I know that, I mentioned it in my commment. They had to deny it, they had no choice. I think Eichel, being young, didn't realize the impact and the agent and front office got involved. It doesn't mean it didn't happen.

And that the coach is fired, yeah, that does add up for me. They can't afford to lose Eichel, so Dan the Man got canned

Buffalo is crazy if they don't pick up Lombardi.

They have a list their compiling, he was one of the names but this is a name that I heard earlier today before Gormely put it out. Futa was also on the list, Trevling, Conroy among others.

Chuck Gormley‏ @ChuckGormleyNHL 25m25 minutes ago

I am hearing @NHLBlackhawks assistant GM Norm MacIver a strong candidate to take over as GM of @BuffaloSabres.

He's got a good resume and in Chitown under Bowman for years, he has helped with development of young players and off the track players. Considered to be a very bright guy. He deserves a shot and that team would be a good fit.

The Pegulas are an issue in Buffalo. The team needs someone with a hockey background which they don't have and have not had in years. They don't have a hockey ops dept. which they need to establish. They need their own version of Brendan Shannahan.

Chris Drury has been mentioned as a potential GM candidate with Phil Housley as an option as HC.

The team also has cap issues so whomever gets the GMs chair will have a ******** of work.
