Agree, the Kings had some vicious open ice hitters in guys like Brown, Richards, and Stoll. Then along the boards they had mashers like King, Nolan, Mitchell, Greene, and even Voynov.

And I am sure I may have left a few guys out.

The Kings didn't goon it up when they received hard, clean hits. They simply looked for the next opportunity to make the other team pay with a hit of their own. The St. Louis series of 2012 and 2013 were examples of two teams just knocking the crap out of each other.

I love rewatching videos of those runs because it was just so raw. And most of the time, the teams were immensely respectful of one another, as much as they were 'hated,' the Kings commanded begrudging respect from teams they played with that attitude for the most part (maybe not Dr. Doan, but **** that clown show, perfect example of a team getting completely unglued by the Kings).

Something that makes me admire those 2012-2014 teams even more is how tough they played without the shenanigans. Yeah they scrummed it up, but they played hard, never(?) full-on dirty, and never threw temper tantrums at the end of games when they were getting embarrassed. I mean, they had a prime opportunity when the Sharks were trucking them, but instead they sacked up and brought it next game. Only thing I can think of is when Regehr and Burns started to go at the end of the game and that was because Burns was clowning around when time ran short. We were experts at pissing other teams off with hard, clean (but maybe on the edge) play, and I know it drives us crazy when they walk away from dirty stuff now, but that's because we DROVE teams to madness back then.

From the start of the playoffs in 2012 through the last goal of 2014 we had the pleasure of watching a perfectly assembled team at the top of their game. It was a privilege.

They were so beat up after that series they had nothing left but sure will when they faced a rested and healthy Hawks team. Hell, Richards willed that game 5 [?] into OT vs Hawks.

He also said he's willing to do that to get as many draft picks as he can, hence the 'right price'. And he isn't necessarily interested in top name /big star players (said they weren't interested in Ovie) because he wants the focus to be the crest on the front, not the name on the back.
But what he's not saying is that , that big name he claims he doesn't want will put butts in the seats. You need that.

So before heading home to Winnipeg, Nolan Patrick is visiting with the Devils, Flyers and...Habs. One of these things is not like the others

So Dustin Brown to Vegas when?

Depends on how many draft picks the Kings would have to fork over. I wouldn't do it, the farm system is porous now. And McPHee is in the drivers seat, plenty of teams with bad paper to move. I'd rather move AMart or Muzzin for a top 6 winger and see how Brown fares in a more positive environment. Next summer, if they still want to move him, 1 less yr on the contract and maybe they can eat 1.8 of that.

Sounds like McPhee has been busy, running into GM's (at the combine) with offers...

"We're far enough along with a few teams that my plan is to sit on the phone all day Monday, Tuesday to see what we can accomplish," McPhee said Saturday. "We've had some real good discussions and I expect some things will start happening next week."

"It seemed the other day we go down to lunch, and I ran into a few GMs and the conversations started," McPhee said. "It's been a busy week, but certainly productive."

Some interesting stats like this one

Wingspan – Athlete extends his arms straight out to the sides. Wingspan is measured to the nearest 0.2 cm from the middle finger tip to middle finger tip.

Top honors went to

Isaac Ratcliffe , 81.29 inches

That's quite a set of wings...

(Rasmussan was 3rd. 79.25)

He mentioned the same thing in his interview with TSN's Geno Reda. It's going to be a wild few days leading up to the expansion draft. Gonna be fun.

Hmmm....

It is a little bizarre, but my internal travel agent also looked up flights from NJ/NYC/PHL to Winnipeg. No direct flights and he'd have to fly through Minnesota, Toronto, or Montreal.

It is possible that going through Montreal was somewhat convenient and he didn't mind doing extra testing for the Canadiens. Jordan Staal opted to visit Columbus in 2006 rather than watching his brother play in the Stanley Cup Final. Staal probably had a good idea he wasn't going to be available to Columbus at #6 that year.

I've seen some divey, whiney teams, and the Pens are giving those guys a run for their money. Makes JR's woe-is-me comments about the state of the game look like nothing but whiney posturing.
