Today was only the first piece in a much larger puzzle. Realistically we shouldn't even assess this team's results and roster until 3 years from now.

What would happen to all those vegas dmen if no other teams trade for them? Do they end up on waivers?

Total win for Vegas today. Getting paid to not pick players? Nice. Some notables -

- LV gets a 2017 first and 2019 third from WIN for the 24th overall selection, acquired from CLB.

- Shea Theodore for the picking Clayton Stoner.

- Gusev, '17 2nd, '18 4th to pick Jason Garrison.

- Clarkson, '17 1st & '19 2nd to pick William Karlsson.

- And the monstrous one - Grabovski, Bischoff, 2017 1st & 2019 2nd to Vegas to pick Berube.

Each one of these players can be flipped at the deadline for assets along with other players they picked. Neal immediately comes to mind and will most likely be flipped for at least a first to a contender.

They have 30 picks in the next 3 years and 11 of those are in the first two rounds. I'm sure they have an eye on the 2018 draft as it'll be a stronger class. 2019 also appears to be on their radar. Really like their moves so far and it's just getting started. They should be making tons of deals on Friday. Hell of a first day for the future of that team.

Vegas obviously sees some value in McNabb or else they would have picked Lewis and flipped him.

Vegas' assistant GM is Kelly McCrimmon who came from Brandon in the WHL. So there might be some familiarity with McNabb from his junior days. Brandon/Kootenay played against each other in the playoffs during McNabb's draft year.

They also got Wpg's 2017 first and 2019 third from WIN for the 24th overall selection, acquired from CLB as part of selecting Thorburn.

They certainly have acquired a nice bounty of draft pick capita over the next 3 years.

Will be interesting to see who they flip over the next little while and how many more assets they end up acquiring.

Apparently guys like TVR, Schlemko and Colin Miller will be on the move as early as today and I am sure a handful of the defenseman they selected will be dealt.

Gone to the Canes, as Bob Mckenzie predicted last night.

ANd Dreger saying the Yotes will be busy in the next 2 days.

ARI seems to be active on a number of fronts. Believed to be talking to NYR pre freeze, interested to see if that (Stepan?) picks up again.

Kruger

I keep hearing the Marcus Kruger from CHI to VGK scenario is alive and well, but some question on timing. So stay tuned on that one.

Eberle (also said the Isles are offering)

I don't doubt there will be significant moves. It is more likely than not EDM will trade Jordan Eberle; more likely than not MIN trades a D.

In other news, the main boards think Doughty's defensive game is overrated especially during his Norris year. Why do I even bother?

TVR to Carolina trade call completed. Canes send late second round pick to Vegas. Carolina also gets 7th Rd pick

all these bad contracts they picked up at a cost will mostly be off the books, i'm quite interested what happens next offseason.

I guess Strome is still young, but as much as I don't like Eberle, that's a good deal for the Islanders. This seems like 75% cap dump, 25% lottery ticket for Edmonton. Strome is every bit as soft as Eberle, but with much less production

Keep forgetting about Winnipeg. Another great deal! It's almost a given now that many of these will be packaged in further deals. Should really depend on where they draft next year too.

Edmonton probably is happy to clear out the cap space for the impending extensions for Draisaitl and McDavid. Puljujarvi can probably replace Eberle's production in the near future.

Islanders are in full "keep Tavares happy so he'll sign an extension" mode. They sacrificed the first rounder this year to keep their team intact and now they have Tavares' WJC buddy in Eberle.

A 2019 5th? That seems like low value for Vegas

Yeah, that one seemed a bit curious. They could have taken Paul Martin who I would have guessed would be worth more, but then again I'd imagine McPhee did shop prospective names and maybe there wasn't a market.

wow, schlemko in his 10th NHL season, and Habs will be his 7th NHL team since 2013. (he was on 3 different teams in 2014-2015)

Not to mention he was also invited to the Kings prospect camp before that, but didn't play due to injury.

Just salt. They never have an answer for Karlsson winning the year before with not even half of Doughty's 1st place votes.
