I think Nashville can get to the Final, but I don't know about their chances facing the Penguins. I want them to win though. They won't keep the Pens off the board. They're scoring an average of 3 goals a game.

Pens would have to get there first, I don't see that.

Nashville has better defense and has a stronger chance to get to the SCF.

Speaking of Nashville

Bargain D! 3 really good d, under 9M total (Josi 4.2....wow)

Josi 4.2 M
Ellis 2.5
Eckholm 2.3

CORSI might be the most useless stat in hockey. They said in HNIC Radio that only 2 teams ranked highly in CORSI are still alive. The Kings kept mentioning how great they were at puck possession, even the announcers would constantly remind the viewers the Kings were outshooting the opponents and that got them out of the playoffs, a fired GM and coach. It's a great stat if you've never played hockey in your life and like to yell "shoot" when you go to games, other than that shot counts and puck possession are garbage. Unless you're putting the puck into the net heads will roll.

Hasn't every cup winner since the cap era started been top 10 in Corsi? I think Pittsburgh in 09 was the only team that wasn't. Looks like this year could be the second time. It's obviously not a guarantee that you'll win or lose but it does have some merit. People who are completely for it are crazy (like the Kings). It's not a perfect predictor but it has predicted success in the past.

Every stat can be deceiving. The only true numbers that matter are in the W and L columns, although they can also be tricky. If you win, what you did was right, and nobody can question it, because you won doing it. If you lose, everything you did was wrong, and can be nothing but questioned, because you lost doing it.

Agree, the only stat I care about is getting 16 wins in the playoffs.

It's not the perfect stat and need context, but there is no other stat that comes close to predicting playoff success as well as Corsi.

8 of the last 10 cup winners have been top 5 in Corsi. Sounds pretty useful actually.

Corsi doesn't predict things, it reinforces a trait that successful teams share, and that's their ability to outshoot their opponents and spend more time with the puck inside the offensive zone.

I still like the 3-portions of sports metric. How good is your team on D, O, and special teams. Most winning teams are good at 2 out of 3 of those. Teams that are good at all 3 are your championship caliber teams.

Any stat can be used as a predictor, they measure long term trends. Goal differential is a good one as well.

Let's say a 300 total.

Kings would be 85, 40, and 25. That's a failing grade. Oof!

A 4 year, 16.6 deal for former backup Scott Darling...YIKES!

Good for the Canes, great job by them They have a starter they can rely on and a good backup in Cam Ward. That combo of Lack and Leighton killed them last year. Darling is a good goalie who like any goalie, needs to play to develop his game. He's gonna get better. He's only had 75 starts, so he'll need a couple years to get to that 200 mark but he's on the right track. I like this move for them, now if they can move Faulk for a Duchene or another top center, they'll have the other missing piece.

Darling's .924 save percentage in 2016-17 ranked tied for fourth among all NHL goaltenders who started more than 25 games.

You know I've always wondered who the **** that couple is wearing those, what look to be, safety traffic vests? They always sit behind the goal on the visiting bench side (where the Ducks shoot twice in regulation).

Not even being gifted McDavid saves the Oilers from continually being a joke

Kesler knew full well what he was doing there. Crazy comeback. At least it's not against the Kings.

That last goal was BS, but the Oilers are trash for even letting it get to that point. How many leads are they going to blow? Lol
