So should the Caps GM give Sutter a call?
The Oilers have shown that they bounce back when necessary. That being said it was a massive win tonight for the ducks going back to Anaheim with momentum.
That was quick
Okay, let’s ask Scott Walker, after the Caps outshot the Canadiens, 42-16, in a 2010 Game 7 loss.
(note, they were also outshot 54-22 in a game 6 loss)
“One time I looked up, I think, on the bench, and it was 33-11 [in shots] and we were losing 1-0,” he said. “That has to play into your mind-set a little bit as a goal scorer. … The puck just wasn’t going in the net. When it’s 33-11, you think the score would be at least 3- or 4-1, right?”
Let’s ask Barry Trotz, after the Caps outshot the Penguins, 49-23, in a Game 3 loss last spring.
“If you look at the number of chances, it was very high and very lopsided,” Trotz said. “We’ll continue. We feel good about where we went. The only thing I don’t like about it is the result.”
Let’s ask T.J. Oshie, after the Caps outshot the Penguins, 38-19, in a Game 4 loss.
“We had some golden opportunities to score goals, and for whatever reason, we didn’t put them in,” he said. “Those have to go in"
MAF is making saves he never makes during the season. He's really stepped it up in place of Murray. Caps are probably trying too hard now and making small errors on their shots so they're not accurate even when they got a virtual empty net. Fact is, there is such a thing as intangibles in sports. Analytics can't answer all the questions.
Fleury is definitely a cool story. I wouldn't mind him being the starting netminder on a cup winner. Only because he's a whooping boy for HFB and other sites.
He was like the 30th guy to raise the cup last season. Wouldn't mind it at all.
Was he really that far down the line to raise the cup? Can't imagine that's true. His teammates love him.
I feel like people were making the same excuses for the Kings until this year. PDO is a real thing, but if you're continually out shooting your opponent and not scoring, something is fundamentally wrong.
Good sign

It is an off day for the Penguins but Crosby was on the ice with a few other players in full gear.
The series is likely over Sat night. Gives him plenty of time to rest up for the next round.

CORSI might be the most useless stat in hockey. They said in HNIC Radio that only 2 teams ranked highly in CORSI are still alive. The Kings kept mentioning how great they were at puck possession, even the announcers would constantly remind the viewers the Kings were outshooting the opponents and that got them out of the playoffs, a fired GM and coach. It's a great stat if you've never played hockey in your life and like to yell "shoot" when you go to games, other than that shot counts and puck possession are garbage. Unless you're putting the puck into the net heads will roll.
""Vadim is a highly skilled playmaker who has had an impressive career in the Kontinental Hockey League," said Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee. "He has won two KHL championships, has been among the league leaders in scoring the last two seasons and has enjoyed success at the international level for Team Russia. We believe he can be an impact player in the NHL.
