It's about that time where we get unreasonably mad at teams in the playoff race. Just thinking again about the WIld losing to the Blues last night

Give me a break.

I'm sorry but LA is gonna have to get help.

I get the sentiment here but lot of people need to remove sticks from their collective *****.

It's a damn sport. Be a fan. You don't have to be rah rah, but at least support your team.

How many people would have said in 12 or 14. Just forget the playoffs, let's go for the pick.

I want to see the Kings win another cup in the next 10 years or so. They won't win a cup occupying space in the black hole for the next 4 or 5 years.

Edmonton and Calgary are only going to get better over the next few years.

The irony of course, is I believe author of that thread is said pessimist a few posts up....(though if it is a vivid memory you may be acting a little more subtly than me)

Call it how I see it. Nothing this team has done in past month, where they should be playing their most desperate hockey, has made me confident they will make a push.

Mike Milbury is an embarrassment. Wants the shootout in the playoffs as well as the 3 on 3 format. Then he talked about seeding for the conference finals to be based on points so an eastern conference team can play in the western conference finals? What a joke.

Yeah, his comments about not being able to see a Bruins/Rangers Finals because the way the playoffs are set up had me shaking my head. I guess he didn't figure out the extra travel involved if two WC teams were seeded 3 and 4 and had to travel east 3 times in a 7 game series even before the Finals.

There's an interesting discussion on the Montreal Canadiens board comparing their GM Bergevin to our GM Dean Lombardi. Someone called Jeff Carter the best trade deadline acquisition in the past decade.

Without question Dean's most important trade.

If the Kings don't get Carter in 2012 they miss the playoffs, Dean is fired, Sutter is a footnote in team history and there are probably zero cups.

Well, at least the Penguins did us a solid in beating the Jets.

ETA:

No pressure or anything. That's former Kings prospect (and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-round 2013 pick) Valentin Zykov.

Beat them in more than one way. They Brought up Tom Sesito for the game and it wasn't for this goal scoring. It was for the expected payback on Malkin for a hit on Blake Wheeler earlier in the season. A hit that should have been suspension worthy. But Malkin and Wheeler dropped the gloves in the first.

Sesito , well he had to do something, so he laid a brutal hit from behind on Enstrom right into the boards, which landed Enstrom in the hospital with facial injuries. He's having a hearing with the NHL. And they ought to come down hard on the Pens for calling him up for goon duty. That's the kind of stuff they league is trying to get away from.

Good for him, he deserves his chance. He's been playing really well in the AHL, 15 goals, 30 pts in 55 games and scores most of his points by making his pretense known right in front of the goalie.
I will be tuning in to see how he fares. He has the speed and skill to be a good match with Aho. Canes really need a #1 center. No wonder the rumors about Duchene are out there. And the Canes have the young d, prospects and $$ to afford that.

yeah but then maybe we dont sign Kopitar or Brown to long term extensions and 75% of this board has nothing to ***** about. cant have it all ! :sarcasm:

Absolutely. A lot of 2012 was about the coaching change. I highly doubt DL would make such a ballsy move right now.

2012 was all about change and taking the next step.

2017 is about stagnation and trying to hang on for dear life. (I'm using trying very loosely here).

Is it considered spam or baiting if I bring up that he's apparently not another bust and the scouts know what they're doing? Or is it too soon?

Zykov has 30 point in 55 games in the AHL. Not exactly setting the world on fire. Jordan Staal and top line do not belong in the same sentence.

If he's not a bust then it is another example of horrific asset management.

Trade up to get him. Then trade him for ****ing Kris Versteeg.

Yep...Kris Versteeg is all that team needed to win a Cup hahahaha.

I don't disagree. The Kings need to replenish the cupboard because the Kings kept buying.

Since winning in '12 they seem to be okay with eeking into the playoffs and figure things will work out.

No doubt that the Kings as of recent years have been wildly inconsistent...some days looking like a lottery team, the next game looking like a dynasty team. Problem is, this year, they have been surprisingly consistent....consistently bad.

After the loss to VAN, I predicted they are done and will never see the top 8 again this season. Sorry, they just suck.

F*** it not worth it anymore

Didn't know appearing in a single NHL game counts as a success. I guess the team should practice your same approach by lowering standards.

Zykov has 100 games of AHL experience, scoring 22 goals and 44 points, and is being called up on a depleted non-playoff team.

Meanwhile, one of those picks the Kings dealt in order to move up to select Zykov turned into Anton Slepyshev.

I'm sure the scouting staff is uncorking bottles of champagne today to celebrate Zykov's NHL arrival.

So what will you require before he is considered a success?

That's asset management, that is on DL , as Weal and Miller were and SUtter. DL has a certain vision of what he wants in a player/forward and neither Weal or Zykov apparently are it.

And that was an another awful trade. Versteeg??? Giving up a top prospect who you never gave a chance to play in the NHL for a 2 mos rental 3rd liner?

Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

Last game the Canes had to ice 11 forwards because of injuries, hence the need for a call-up. They like how Zykov uses his his body to protect the puck and win board battles, but there are concerns about his speed. We'll see if he can hang. Wish Z the best.

But yeah, first line?

I don't mind trading Weal because he was never going to play on a Sutter team. Vinny was an asset, albeit a temporary one. But did we have to give up a 3rd?

I agree on Miller because we never had much of a chance to resign Lucic, but a trading a fifth-round D who had a higher value because of his play during the Calder Cup championship run, when we were strong on D? I get that. But giving up a 1st and Jones? Oof.

Trading away Zykov and a pick for a rental Sutter didn't even like to play? When we're weak on forwards? Another oof.

And therein lies a problem, the aversion to skill and speed and their not the 'big heavy game type'. Because why would you want a skilled player with good hands, speed and creativity that plays hard and can score. Oh that's right he's not a 6'2 giant. Maybe DL has to recognize that 5 years of producing in the 2.5 GPG isn't good enough and he should have done that last year.

Zykov and Weal , with TT and TP would have been a nice quartet of young forwards for the now and later.

Hopefully that closed minded thinking changes with the new GM.
Who I have a suspicion that Sutter won't want to coach for.

i think with Weal and Zykov they were more thinking we didn't have the luxury of time to wait for them to ripen while our window was still open rather than they flat-out did not like the prospects.

Obviously that may be changing a bit but I think you get my point.
